I hope everything is okay, Trish. Nothing serious like last year I hope.

Didn’t mean to cause worry. All is well. I had been sleazing on my lunch hour but my company has been taken over by another company and work is crazy. No more lunch hour for awhile. Also I’m getting ready to travel to Chile and Ecuador to celebrate my 50th and there’s no way I’m going to put that trip in jeopardy by ending up on crutches due to falling on ice again! So yeah, priorities.

Also, the “athletic supporter” bit is my favorite joke from Grease, so it gave me a chuckle.

Sorry, Team. Biking just isn’t a priority for me at the moment.

Hello Team! I’m Trish and I live in Mount Rainier. I’ve done Freezing Saddles twice before, and after fracturing a fibula last February from crashing on some black ice, I swore I would not do it again. So of course here I am.

I’m not too keen on great distances in chilly weather, but I’ll try to at least be sleazy.

I’ve met Laurie, and Lisa, don’t know if you recall but we met briefly at the Schuylkill century. I look forward to meeting and doing some (slow) miles with the rest of you!

Consider Mount Rainier, just over the NE DC border in MD. Easy commute to Union Station area via Metropolitan Branch Trail. Affordable and a great community. I met more people here in the first 6 months than I did in the entire 12 years I lived in Del Ray. There are two elementary schools. From what I understand one is pretty good, the other is to be avoided so you’d want to be in the “better school” district. Good luck!

Hi all – I’m Trish and pretty much a newbie when it comes to the forums, but this will be my 3rd Freezing Saddles. I’m a telecommuter and have found FS to be a great way to pry myself out of a warm and cozy house when otherwise I’d stay happily burrowed indoors. Hopefully this year my participation will not be cut short by broken bones (black ice is no picnic). I’m in Mount Rainier and happy to see that there are a good number of participants from this neck of the woods. Ready to get my sleaze on!

It was from India and I really thought you’d win it! Alas no current plans to go back this Feb/March.

Just chiming in on the awesomeness of the tiffin food box prize. I’m very thrilled to have won it! :D

My road bike doesn’t have stays for a real rack. This handlebar bag looks like it would handle getting what I need to and from work. The question is, would having extra weight on the handlebars of a road bike screw up the handling too much? I’d generally be carrying purse stuff (keys, wallet, phone) + lunch + pumping equipment (though not the pump)

You might want to consider the Arkel Ranonneur Rack http://www.arkel-od.com/us/arkel-randonneur-rack.html. It works great w/my carbon seatpost and saddle with titanium rails. I also highly recommend the Arkel Tailrider Trunk Bag – http://www.arkel-od.com/us/all-categories/seat-bags-trunk-bags/tailrider.html Very well made and holds a lot of stuff.

Great idea, Laurie – Would love a FMCC at Zekes!

Some good news for us “northerners” – a Zekes coffee roastery is going in at RI ave and S. Dakota (they have a shop in B’more and sell their fab fresh roasted beans at farmers mkts in the DC area). This will be close to the commuting route for many of us coming into DC from PG and Montgomery county via the NW branch trail – Brookland – Met Branch. Sounds like you have some good coffee shops in SS/takoma, but we have nothing in PG/NE DC (Busboys and poets in Hyattsville doesn’t open till 8am). Here’s hoping for a FMCC in NE!

That’s me you’re talking about. I posted this to the “Freezing Saddles: Winter Bike Challenge (sign up open)” thread:

    ” Oopsie

I accidentally uploaded some rides recorded on my Garmin that I’d already uploaded via the Strava phone app. I deleted the duplicate rides from Strava, but the duplicate rides are still being included in the “BikeArlington Freezing Saddles Competition” page. My YTD distance s/b 418, not 482. Is there any way to fix this?

    Thanks!
