Rick! Welcome back! Hope you are at least able to ride your bike with all the busy-ness. Have not seen you but then I changed my schedule and am earlier now. Hope to see you soon.

Liz, I’m still riding my bike. I can’t live without riding.
Congratulation on your new achievement! You went from bike mom -> bike commuter -> bike instructor -> total 200 rider. Very impressive.
Rick.

Oops, I just found out that I have to attend a music performance on this night. I will try for August.

RESTONTODCParticipantCrime could happen anyplace. I will keep riding this route. I won’t let these criminals take over this trail but need to be more vigilant in this area.
Thank you for the warning.
Rick
RESTONTODCParticipantI always want to attach a portable leaf blower to my bike so it can clean the trail while riding.
RESTONTODCParticipantLiz,
Hopefully, you have it figured out soon.
I experienced my light issue last week as well. I have been abusing my light and it gave up on me. My light would go OFF when I hit a bump and back ON when I hit the next bump. Other cyclists thought I was a crazy cyclist because I would pass them when I have light and fall back behind them when my light was off.
I can’t wait to receive a new one.

Hmmm… this might be what I “need” for 30-50F. What is the fit/cut like?
Will,
I wear this jacket with a regular jersey or base layer from 0 to 40F. I feel it’s too hot for above 40F. It’s a club fit. I’m wearing a Medium but the sleeves are little long for me.
RESTONTODCParticipantI wear only the Gore Men’s Phantom Jacket. It’s water resistant. The GoreWindstopper is in the front and the back mesh gives good ventilation. It prevents overheating. Here is the link.
RESTONTODCParticipantI got nothing against these officers and thankful that they’re on the trails. I know they are just doing their jobs to keep everyone safe but they should educate the cyclists are blowing through the crossings and other crazy unsafe stuff without giving tickets, threats, or verbal warnings. Most of cyclists didn’t go to a formal training or test before they ride their bikes.
It’s unreasonable to ask us putting our feet on the ground at the stop sign. I can stop for 5 seconds without my feet on the ground.
When I was riding in Portland, OR, I saw police officers stopped unsafe riders, explain the safety issue and hand out their safety brochure similar to PAL without giving them the tough guy talk. They also stopped cyclists without tail lights and hand out the lights for them.

Pfunkallstar waited three seconds after the green to begin crossing, even though he was legally entitled to start crossing immediately at the green. That’s another good idea for saving your skin. I might do that too, though as his experience shows, it’s also not “magically safe.”
Since I’m much smaller than vehicle, I’m always scanning for danger when I’m approaching and in a intersection even I have a green light or walk sign.

RESTONTODCParticipantI was pulling a 4 riders train approaching N Oak St one afternoon, slow down to stop, look left, right, called clear but then saw a hiding fall church police at the American Legion parking lot, yelled COPS and everyone were unclipped quickly and almost got ran over each other.
I don’t want get busted for not putting my foot down. Here is my new check list for W&OD intersection at Falls Church area.
1) Left clear for car
2) Right clear for car
3) Bushes and parking lot for hiding Falls Church cops.October 19, 2012 at 12:46 am in reply to: YAAA (Yet Another Another Accident) at Lynn/Lee Highway #953820RESTONTODCParticipantThere was another accident at 6 PM today. There were firetruck, ambulance, and police with small blue bike. Hopefully, the cyclist is Ok.
What is going on with drivers at this intersection?
RESTONTODCParticipantFrom the drawing, it looks like concrete with black surface.

This is what I hope can happen with the Custis in Rosslyn. Too many ped/cyclist conflicts, especially because the hill creates larger speed differences.
Since there is very little use of Lee High way West right lane, can they make it both direction bike lanes similar to 15th street and leave the sidewalk for pedestrians?
