I bought my Salsa Pistola at Spokes Etc on Quaker Lane, prior year model three years ago, so I don’t know what they do now. I thought I saw the Salsa dealer decal in the Bikenetics window.

I am going to ride over to spokes and Bikenetics this weekend.

I am also emailing Salsa about an updated bike/frame dealer list.

Why not have a dealer ship the frame to you?

I want to buy my next frame/bike from a local shop. Having to ship or drive hours for warranty issues when the frame breaks, is such a hassle.

Found out, all QBP shops can order parts but only Dealers can order frames or bikes. Just going to go buy my second choice, a Fuel EX 29er.

I just joined in for some laps on my way to and from my ride. Very glad I got a fender-ed bike for such days.

People need to get to places, and stuff. They should add 12-lane highways, in both directions, between Fairfax and DC, and Baltimore and DC.

I assume you are joking, but how DC escaped that trend is wonderful. Yes there are some elevated highways that chopped up neighborhoods but not that many. Just imagine the horror if Georgia, Rhode Island, Conn,Wisconsin and Penn had all been made into limited access roads that all ended in a web of ramps around the mall.

Do I wanna swap out my tires (Freedom Ryder 35s) for 28s or 25s or something? That would require going and buying tires :P

28 maybe, 25 no. 25 and narrower tires are for race day only.

This talk was good, but so many of the TED talks these days are not. I suspect the good reputation of this franchise is soon to be gone.

Regarding disc brakes, I routinely experience them failing, or being problematic, in the winter. It usually happens when near the freezing point when there are puddles or slush around. Water coats the rotor or gets in/on the caliper and then freezes. It never really disables them, but can greatly reduce the effectiveness and/or require a lot more hand force. I often drag the brakes a little to keep the rotors warm to stop this.

Once it is really cold, below 20 F, it is no longer a problem.

This has happened with a range of brakes for me: Avid BB7, Juicy 7, Shimano XT 785, XTR 985.

OBTW- I HATE the way aluminum bikes ride. So I am biased that way. Had one large diameter tubed aluminum road bike, probably didnt fit me too well, and I hated it. No more aluminum for me. I have heard tho, that aluminum may not be the best material for larger/taller riders. And I could be full of it too. Pretty much even money on that one.

I used to express the anti-AL view often, however, I have learned it is not true anymore. AL bikes can ride great, if made well. And regardless wheel and tire choice still matter the most.

I do not remember that brand, but a bought a set of quick release levers that were only openable when the bike was upside down. They worked great when new the idea anytime it is locked you do it right side up so no one can take the wheels off.

However after a short while they stopped working at all. They would often not lock on and also failed to release. It the end I had to break them off and toss them out.

I rode a lot of the Custis and wo&d today with 28 road tires. Had no problems cutting through the slush to pavement except on the bridges. I must have picked the very best time 1-3. But can see how Wed morning will be awful.
