Why not have a dealer ship the frame to you?

Who is allowed to participate? I expect the answer is at least DC, Arl Co, and Alex City residents since WABF is sponsored by those jurisdictions. Anyone else?

It depends on how many of them you do in a day.

Or, I guess, bother to record in Strava. That’s gonna be my biggest problem with BAFS, dealing with the kludgy data entry after forgetting to start & stop the phone app. I think I would have to be on the slacker team so as not to let down all the folks that ride 15mi each way to work and then do 50 milers on the weekends for fun. (Ah, what luxury.)

99% of my rides are what Dickie calls “sleaze“. Does that make me a good fit?

Clicking a column header to sort the People table starts with ascending order. Is that deliberate, putting slackers at the top to be more quickly identified for public ridicule?

Out-of-focus photo from a couple days ago that illustrates what apparently can happen to the studs (getting pried out). I took this before trying to fix

This is usually an easy fix — just poke at the exposed base of the stud with something like a narrow slotted screwdriver to re-seat it. A couple times I’ve noticed half-gone studs like this on the front tire. If you watch the tire spin, you’ll notice that a stud like this is brighter because more metal is showing. With fenders of course it’s much harder to spot this on the rear. And as I think Peter White noted, it’s no big deal to lose a few.

The Georgetown BID would also like to restore the C&O towpath. One of the pictures shows a wider, paved path, instead of the narrow dirt trail.

Pave the towpath? Nooooooooo!!!!!! Please, no!!!!

You may be in luck – I haven’t been Strava-ing many rides lately because I haven’t been anywhere interesting, but I did today in part because I wanted some data on my Freezing Saddles profile. Unfortunately, my phone decided to search for a GPS signal for the first four miles or so of my ride (And then I dropped my front derailleur on the Rock Creek Park Trail – I’ll probably post about it here somewhere). So I may also be looking for a way to quickly manually enter rides. And when your needs align with the needs of the web developers, you win!

I’ll keep you posted, but there’s probably a way we can make this work for people who can’t or don’t want to use Strava all the time.

That sounds great — the avoiding-Strava-and-uploading-easily bit, not the derailleur. Dropped your derailleur? Ouch.

BTW, Hope to see you on a Kidical Mass Arlington ride sometime! We have lots of fun types of bikes to ogle…

Thanks! I definitely want to do that, most likely once it warms up a bit, since I’ll be coming up from Alexandria and don’t want to ask too much of my passengers. We got the longtail pretty recently (barely missed the Halloween kidical) and I want the kids to really love their early experiences on it. I know, this would be a piece of cake with a box bike that included a rain/wind tent…

And for winter safety, spend a little more and put studded tires on. I’ve been watching videos this week of cars spinning in icy slush — that just doesn’t happen with studded bike tires. Of course sharing the road can be dicey when the cagers are underprepared.

Peter White’s advice seems sound: http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/studdedtires.asp. You’ll especially want to decide if you want tires geared more toward snow or streets. I love my Marathon Winters but some of the pics I’ve seen here suggest many of y’all would be better served with other tires, as the MW knobs are pretty short and spaced close together.
