Hmm, just checked. It looks like the new forum software doesn’t have private messages? Maybe I’m just not seeing it.

OvertoneParticipantGiven the high winds, likely debris on the trails, and potential for falling limbs, I think I’ll drive to Happy Hour tonight :-(. To assuage my guilt, anyone want to carpool? I’ll leave from my house in Del Ray at 5 pm, can pick you up in Old Town or National Landing or somewhere nearby. I anticipate departing the HH before 8pm. If you choose to stay later you’ll need to metro home.
Send me a private message with a cell phone number if you’d like a ride.

OvertoneParticipantI can’t this Saturday. Would love to some other weekend.

OvertoneParticipant4D Hyperloop Pointless Prize for Freezing Saddles 2023!
This one is for you route planning fanatics out there, as an alternative to Strava Art. This is a prize for the loop ride that crosses itself the most times on Strava without actually intersecting in the real world.
Rules
1. It must be a loop ride: start and end at the same place, don’t reuse a street segment.
2. Places where the Strava path crosses or touches itself have to be over, under, or through the 4th dimension.
3. Different corners of the same intersection can be used in the route if the path pixels don’t touch each other (in the zoomed-out Strava image showing the whole route).
4. Using the two sides of the same street segment disqualifies the route, even if the two parts of the path are visually distinct on Strava.
5. Special exception to rule 4: the two sides of the Key Bridge count as different streets.
6. Places where you can ride under or over a different segment of your route for a distance count as one crossing, not multiple (if you wobble back and forth) or infinity (if you get it precisely aligned).Tag your Strava ride #hyperloop and post an image in the dedicated pointless prize thread along with your case for how many self-crossings it counts as. The winning route is the one with the most self-crossings. The judge’s decisions on interpretation questions will be arbitrary, final, and subject to bribery.
Prize: a Klein bottle.
Happy looping!

PS this is my first time sponsoring a FS PP. Any suggestions for how to improve the above rules or process will be appreciated. I will create a separate thread for this… posting here for Serdar’s list.

#Overtone: Just east of the I-395 underpass, there is trail access at level to an *un-busy* section of Four Mile Run Drive. The West Glebe intersection will be straight through, all we have to do is dodge “construction furniture”, then rejoin the existing trail. We’ll be OK.
agree. as i noted in my previous, where i said “shouldn’t be a big delay.”
April 25, 2022 at 7:27 pm in reply to: West Glebe Bridge to close May 9, but remain open for bikes/peds #1121609OvertoneParticipantThat article goes on to say, somewhat confusingly:
“Pedestrians and cyclists will still be able to use the bridge for a few more months. A temporary pedestrian path across Four Mile Run is expected to open in July. Four Mile Run Trail users, meanwhile, will re-routed to a parallel path, as the portion of trail under the bridge will be closed.”
Does “meanwhile” imply immediate closure of the 4MRT from May 9? Appreciate any insights from those In The Know.
EDIT: Found it. Image on the Arlington County press release makes it clear the 4MRT will close on May 9. Detour to the surface crossing – which shouldn’t be a big delay because there won’t be cross traffic from/to the bridge.

February 18, 2022 at 3:23 pm in reply to: Chainsaw art ride — Sunday, February 20 at 10:00 a.m. #1119582OvertoneParticipantI plan to join the ride. Looking at the route, I think I will drop out around after lake barcroft and head home from there.
John
OvertoneParticipantHi all, first time for FS. In the first part of the pandemic I rode a lot in summer/fall 2020. Since then I’ve stayed home wayy too much and mostly found myself zwifting instead of going outside. Hoping to meet people and have fun and be incentivized to get outdoors more despite the cold.
OvertoneParticipantYesterday (Saturday 4/4) the purple bin in the parking lot of Mom’s grocery store in Alexandria (off Mt Vernon just S of the Arlington county line) was still open and accepting glass.
I don’t know about Arlington county bins.
John
OvertoneParticipantI’m not in FS so points schmoints but it sounds like a good ride. I’ll join.
Since I don’t know you guys by sight, can we set a slightly more precise meeting point: by the rudder, or in the parking lot, or …?
Thanks!

If you’re looking for a probably-not-too-flooded/affected-by-flood-debris route, I’d try this one. (110 Trail to 27 Trail, around the Pentagon to Fern to Eads).
Thank you so much! Never tried that route. Looks like I’ll get to learn something new today. The sun is out, time to head out and try to get home.
OvertoneParticipantI need to get home from Rosslyn to Alexandria (Del Ray neighborhood) this afternoon. Anyone know if the MVT is passable Rosslyn to DCA? Anyone know about 4MRT from MVT to Route 1? I think I might get off the MVT at Crystal City since the water will likely be high at the Potomac end of 4MR for as long as it takes Arlington County to drain
