Ouch – biking in and around Seven Corners. I’ll leave that to the braver folks.
I rarely have a problem finding decent bike parking in Arlington now that I think about it; however, what totally perplexes me is the complete lack of racks on M Street in Georgetown (the one rack by Dean & Deluca is way too small to handle the demand).
The one my D&D is def always full. You might crossing the canal bridge toward the water from the D&D rack. There is a barely used rack where Potomac Street meets Grace St. There is also a set of racks cross M in the opposite direction at Potomac and Prospect.
hencioParticipantI’ve had a rash of flats lately. I think I’m gonna try the Pasela TGs in 35. Thanks for the responses.

There were 2 police offices in the park that sits in the median between Lee Hwy looking very closely at bikers this morning (Friday 10/7) at about 7:45 am. I think they may be ready to give tickets to cyclists that fly by on a flashing red hand.
I went through around 8:25 this morning and I noticed that with the police presence people were not whipping around from the center lane or inching up to the cross walk. It was oddly calm.

I don’t think that Civia is planning on releasing the Bryant with the Alfine 11. It would add $400+ to the price of the bike without a huge amount of benefit. If you want the 11, you’ll need to buy the shifter and hub yourself and upgrade it yourself.
Ah, good to know on the Alfine upgrade. BTW, do you know the widest tire that the Bryant takes? I’ve reached out to Civia previously and was not able to get an answer.
hencioParticipantI had a guy pass me in the bikelane (he was on a BMW motorcycle) the other day. I yelled something similar about not being a bike.

Are you looking at the belt drive one? I’ve been eyeing that as my next commuter for quite some time now. Would love to hear your thoughts if you do get one!
I’m looking at this as my next commuter as well. Waiting for the Alfine 11. I’d be more than happy to get rid of my chain for the regular commuter.
hencioParticipantI called Amtrak. The Northeast line is all carry on, so bikes would not be possible. NYC has a bike share that is supposed to launch summer 2012. Perhaps then it will be possible.
hencioParticipantMy directions home we accurate, but just not as smart as google maps are. Route was the shortest, most direct route, but didn’t take into account hills I like to avoid or avoiding close contact with cars. Prior to google bike directions, it took me 2 months to come up with my best route. When google bike directions came out, it was exactly my route with the exception of a 1/8 mile stretch of road.

Hencio – this link may help you out. Good luck!
Thanks for the link. I didn’t see the Northeast line of the list, so I’ll have to call. Based on what I’ve already read, bike on the Acela is out.

Yesterday morning there was a police officer ticketing cyclists who failed to stop at the intersection of K St and Wisconsin Ave (even, in my case, when the entire place was deserted of cars).
I saw this too the other day. I run through this intersection by way of Wisconsin everyday, and my only guess is that they the police get a lot of complaints of cyclists not stopping there. I have to admit that I’ve seen some cyclists who come off the CC and don’t even slow down. That said, I’ve also see a fair share of drivers looking down checking facebook here too. These factors, as well as this being a 3 way stop make this slightly hazardous. I can only hope that the police decide that enforcement on drivers is a priority as well.

Recently the buckle has started to rust. I dropped them a message, and they’re replacing the bag. How’s that for customer service?
I totally forgot about the lifetime warranty. I have ridden in the rain with mine often over the past three years and my buckle is rusty as well. I figured that was just considered wear and tear. The bag is pretty bombproof, I’d be happy if they just replaced the rusty buckle.
hencioParticipantFenders help so much. I love riding in the rain during the warm and hot months. Maybe it is the cooler resulting temps that come with the rain, but the effect on my energy is better than coffee.

The one bit of advice from the late Mr. Brown I did NOT appreciate:
We have those old fashioned bike racks at our office that you have to lift your bike over. The entire top bars are taken up by dusty u-locks belonging to once-every-six-month commuters. It is impossible to find enough space for your bike even shoving them to the side. I’d say leave it in your office and run up to get it if you only ride in twice per year.We have old fashioned (fender unfriendly) racks at my office. I try to lock to the bottom of the rack, rather than the top. Over the past 2 years we have also had 3 bikes stolen there too. The common thread were cable locks rather than U locks.
hencioParticipantMmmm happy hour. So glad Jays is still kicking it and representing a little bit of old Arlington.
