I was down there mountain biking on Sunday and decided to take a spin up Libby Hill. I just don’t think it’s enough to allow the climbers to escape the peloton. Cavendish apparently agrees with me.

Should we start a thread about car pooling and opportunities to travel together?

Aren’t people just going to ride there? :-) That was the plan, but I expect I will just watch it from the couch.

My wife and I will probably be heading down but we have not looked at the logistics yet…. more likely than not we will drive down, park 10 miles out and ride in the rest of the way. I suspect we will just do a day trip unless hotels are available (doubtful). I’m probably most interested in the men’s road race or the TT but who knows… September is a long way off according to my calendar.

This sounds like a good idea. September is getting closer.
Where will you park and which route to downtown?

Is anyone down in Richmond? For those who aren’t, NBCSN (NBC Sports Network) is showing the men’s Under-23 individual TT, on tape delay. The channel will continue to broadcast some of the events, but not all (I think).

From what I can tell, this is the NBCSN broadcast schedule:

Tue. 2-5 pm, Live coverage, Elite women’s individual time trial
Wed. 2-4 pm, Live coverage, Men’s Elite Individual TT

    Fri. 8-10 pm, Tape-delayed coverage

I don’t see any broadcasts on the other NBC/Comcast channels (MSNBC, CNBC, NBC). During the Olympics, those other channels carry some of the sports coverage, but not for the UCI Road Cycling Championships.

There was rain in Richmond today, which might have kept some of the spectators away. There aren’t any spots for spectators on the sections on the highways and bridges.

No national TV coverage this weekend, except maybe Universal Sports (which Comcast still doesn’t carry).

    Sat. Sept. 26
Men’s Jr Road Circuit, Women’s Elite Road Circuit

Sun. Sept. 27, Men’s Elite Road Circuit

The women’s is on universal, but the men’s is on CNBC (at least that’s what’s listed on my system, verizon FiOS).

That was really, really fun. From what I could tell, Richmond did an awesome job. Saturday, you could have driven down and parked a couple blocks from the course. Sunday you may have had to walk a mile to a parking space. Not more. the atmosphere was great. And the bakfiets got _tons_ of attention.

Nice to see the bakfiets getting TV time. Happy to see Sagan win the way he did… nice way to end the string of second places this year with a WC jersey!

We were staying with friends who live on the course, at the top of Libby Hill (and have kids our kids’ ages, which made for the best visit ever!). They mentioned that the Mayor of Richmond thinks big and uses the line “cool cities do cool things” to address critics of things like bringing worlds to Richmond. I love this! I realize Arlington isn’t technically a “city”, but it’s as dense as DC. Still, how awesome would it be to have a leader willing to take on critics and push for Arlington to be “cool”.

    Or at least “smart”
