Here are details on a weekly ride which might be of interest to folks who want to try a group ride of pace 12-16 miles per hour.

The Thursday evening tour from Tenley Circle is a decades-old Potomac Pedalers’ tradition. Join us each Thursday through September, weather permitting, as we explore some of the most beautiful neighborhoods in D.C., Bethesda, Chevy Chase and Rock Creek Park. Most routes go through neighborhoods with light traffic but all include short connections on roads with heavier traffic. Comfort with road riding is a must. Ride leaders will choose one route from the club’s collection of classic routes, then meet afterward for pizza, beer, salad and socializing. You may even get free pizza courtesy of Potomac Pedalers.

Where: Tenley Circle, at the 3900 block of Yuma Street. N.W. (east of the circle).

When: Each Thursday until the end of September.

Time: Plan to arrive no later than 6:15 p.m. to sign in and hear announcements. The group rolls promptly at 6:30 p.m.!

Distance: Route of 10 to 20 miles, depending on available daylight. ALL ROUTES INCLUDE ROLLING SOME STEEP HILLS.

Level: Most participants have done group rides in the past and have road bikes. This ride is rated C/CC in the Potomac Pedalers ride table. The pace is 12-16 miles per hour on flat ground and 8-12 miles per hour on hills. Beginners are recommended to first try out one “D” class ride to ensure comfort level before moving to a higher level. If you are a beginner to group rides or don’t know your speed, check out the Potomac Pedalers’ ride schedule for other options: http://www.potomacpedalers.org/events/event_list.asp

Bring: A well-tuned bike with inflated tires, a couple of spare tubes, frame pump or CO2 cartridges, water and a little cash.

No go if raining or wet roads. If weather is if-y the day of, for an update go to http://www.potomacpedalers.org/, click on “Ride Calendar” in the upper left corner and find the ride. Click on the ride, so a ride details box comes up and click on the description.

    HELMETS ARE REQUIRED.
