Is it just me, or were there a lot of little flying insects on the Arlington bike trails this afternoon? MVT & W&OD, I kept on needing to pick them off my shirt and almost swallowed a couple several different times.
I guess it’s the warm weather, the birds and other things that eat these things are gone, but the little critters have managed one more mating cycle until the first frost.
Not just you. I had lots of little gnat-like buggers bouncing off my skin and getting caught in my arm hair* on the way home this afternoon as well along the MVT, though they seemed worse back in August.
*Perhaps another reason pro cyclists shave body hair?
The strava title on my go home ride today was “Bugs are kinda crunchy” it is not just you it seems they are real bad in places. the deer are out in numbers too. I don’t want to be picking any of them out of my fredly leg fur.
(Had a deer in the headlights moment this am and it was in fact a deer in my headlight.)
There are swarms of them on the MVT and the trail from the George Mason Bridge (14th St.) to the Jefferson Memorial, usually on late summer afternoons or early evenings. They seem to gather near groves of trees too.
