Hi everyone, this is your captain speaking, and I want to welcome you to Team 12!

I set up a Strava club here for everyone to join: https://www.strava.com/clubs/team12forFrozenGlory

Our team has the following folks:

    • akbald01
    • beaversd
    • bobco85
    • creadinger
    • dkel
    • Harry Meatmotor
    • iareintelligent
    • jenkinms
    • Powerful Pete
    • run/bike
    • TimV

Please introduce yourself and provide any recommendations for a team name.

To introduce myself, I make videos and break various parts of my bike, but I enjoy exploring the DC metropolitan area on two-wheels, checking out interesting things here and there.

My recommendation for team name: A Pretty Yuge Deal
(this way, when people ask who we are, we can say, “We’re A Pretty Yuge Deal” :D)

I look forward to riding with y’all this winter!

How about “Team 12 – BobCo International, Arctic Division”? BobCo is a global company, right?

For those teammates that don’t know me, I do a fair bit of utility cycling, mostly commuting. I can do at least a short ride in pretty much any weather, so I’m looking to ride every day for the maximum daily point bonus!

    Go team 12!

I’ve been off the bike for numerous reasons, but hopefully back riding Friday. And Saturday. And Sunday. And Monday…

    Hi everybody –

I’m fine with whatever the team name is.

I ride every day regardless, and have a daily streak going since January ’15.

I am balancing my outdoor riding this FS with my indoor training. I race on NCVC, and road season begins in March, so a portion of my miles will be on the trainer and won’t count towards BAFS.

I live in Arlington, work in Herndon, and commute occasionally (46 miles round trip). Recently I’ve been putting my bike in the car to do a ride at lunch on the W&OD near where it intersects with 28. If anyone works out that way, let me know.

I’m happy to lead an after-work or weekend ride and will post it either here or to the Strava group. If you’re interested, let me know.

With that, I’m off to get a few miles for lunch.

    Cheers! Go Team 12!

    What’s up Team 12?

This is my second year competing in freezing saddles and I’m excited to improve on my last year’s point total by riding everyday this season. I’m pretty much strictly a commuting cyclist (~11 miles roundtrip on weekdays) but like last year I plan to take the long way home a few days a week to grab some extra points. Looking forward to meeting you all on the roads and trails at some point this winter!

What’s up guys? I missed last year because I was in Antarctica so I’m looking forward to competing this year.

I live in Del Ray and will be doing my sleaze and grocery trips in that area. I don’t really commute at all, but I plan on doing the daily sleaze rides at least to get those easy points which is a first for me in this competition. Otherwise I’m a randonneur so I will definitely be doing a few 100+ milers which will boost my point total too. I need to get in shape for the upcoming season as well as keep my monthly 200K streak going.

Question for you guys that ride literally every day for years – do you ever go away? I missed January 1st this year because my wife and I were in Philly visiting her sister. No bikes to be had and no where to ride them which would not have been a hassle for everyone. Oh well.

I could be wrong but is this an all dudes team? Maybe our name could reflect that? Like Sausage party or something similar.

Agree. Just an example of a bad suggestion.

Oh good. Well, hopefully we can all get together for a local ride or coffee or beer sometime in the next 2 months because some of your forum names are familiar, but I don’t think I’ve met any of you in person except The Corporation (BobCo)

Life will be hectic for me for the next 2 weeks but should calm down after, so I would love to have a group ride with everyone at the end of January. If you’re looking to try riding in an area new to you, I’m in for taking a group that way!

I’m kind of liking The Corporation as a team name (this might be the 8 years of corporate work culture speaking). We could use something like this as a formal announcement:

    Dear Member #15837895.

The Corporation values your input. We strive to ensure the best winter cycling experience and care deeply about the well being of all our members.

To better help your cycling experience here at The Corporation, we would like you to provide a few minor personal details:
    – blood sample
    – fingerprints
    – names of your next of kin

We look forward to bringing you into the unique and challenging Freezing Saddles competition as a well-valued and respected member of The Corporation.

Hey everyone, 2 updates for ya:

    • As of now, we are still missing 3 people from the Strava club. I am PM’ing Sunyata to help track them down.
    • You are invited to hang out with team members and/or cavort with the enemy (secstate from Team 5) on a ride this evening. The plan is to meet at the Arlington Monolith (bike counter on Custis Trail near Lynn St/Lee Hwy/Key Bridge in Rosslyn a.k.a. Intersection of Doom) at 7:30 p.m. We’ll ride the Arlington Loop, stopping halfway through in Shirlington for food/drinks. Anyone and everyone is invited (even if they’re the enemy i.e. on a different team). Hope to see you tonight!

Awesome! I sent forum PMs to the 3 individuals earlier this AM (sorry if you’d already done that!) but following up with Sunyata to get actual e-mails is probably the best way to get them to join the Strava team.
