Got asked this today and didn’t know, the area is unfamiliar to me:

“Have you heard of the new path down in the Rockville/Aspen HIll area, near Viers Mill Road? Is that an extension of the Capital Crescent (sp?) Trail?”

    Anyone know?

    Thanks!

I was understanding that that was further east than Rockville though. I’ll find if I can get more info

I lived up there just over a year ago. Right down from Aspen Hill. Not sure of any “new” trails but theres a multi-use trail at Georgia and Hewitt Ave. Not sure where itll take you, it’s online somewhere. The trail connects various neighborhoods useing the trail and local streets. I used to run there so I’ve only taken it a few miles out and back. I remember hitting University Ave, I think, and turning back because I didnt find where the trail continued.

Thanks. What they were asking about was a 2.5mi piece of the ICC trail that opened July 28th.

I’ve never cycled in this area, but we were driving on the ICC about three or four weeks ago, and I noticed a nice trail to the side of the road. It seems to stop around Georgia Avenue; I don’t know if they plan to continue it. I’m also not sure where it begins. If someone lives in that area, it might not be a bad idea to go out on a reconnaissance mission before using it as part of the commute, etc.

On a related topic, does Montgomery County have a trail map like Arlington, DC and Fairfax? Was looking for one a few months ago without success.

The last time I checked, Montgomery County only had that annoying online bike viewer map. It’s very clunky and slow-loading. And of course it’s useless when you’re out on the road. Even if you have a smartphone, it would take a very long time to load.

The PDF maps that are available are either outdated (2008) or so basic that they don’t show anything other than a general outline of the major trails (CCT, Georgetown Branch Trail and C&O towpath).

When it comes to bike info resources, Montgomery County is way behind Arlington and even D.C.
