In a top-10 list of long rail-trails in the country, they use his picture for the W&OD!
Nice!
Personally I’m a little disappointed to not see the NCR/YCHT on there, or the Pine Creek rail trail in north-central PA.
April 6, 2016 at 6:27 pm #1050621Tim KelleyParticipantHa. He probably didn’t even get out of his car to snap that photo…
April 6, 2016 at 6:38 pm #1050625consularriderParticipantSilly magazine says “national” park. So insulting to the Virginia taxpayers. NPS would never consider any type of trail snow clearing.
April 6, 2016 at 7:08 pm #1050627peterw_diyParticipantHmm, not released with a Creative Commons license. Fair Use, or should Bob send them a DMCA takedown notice?

He probably should spend some time trying to find the original source and crediting it first though, right??
April 6, 2016 at 7:20 pm #1050629mstoneParticipantGreenbrier trail is on my to-do this year

Do it! When you get to Cass WV, stay a couple nights in one of the company houses and ride the steam train up the mountain. So much fun!
And way to go RCannon100!
April 6, 2016 at 7:40 pm #1050633americancycloParticipantWhy would’t they use my pic of the same intersection?

Weak, Tim. You can do better than that.
Actually Bob did use a CC license (the Flickr mobile site obscures that a bit) but Bicycling hasn’t adhered to it, as they have failed to provide all the “appropriate credit” required by the “CC BY 2.0” license. Specifically, the lazy magazine crew failed to link to the pic on Flickr.

Haha. I’m sure orange cone slalom teams (you know who you are, I’m sure they exist in Europe) drool at pictures like that, but to the rest of us, that picture makes it one of the worst rail-trails in the country. Not best.

Maybe we should collectively award prizes this BTWD to local jurisdictions. Maybe a tacoed wheel for the worst Falls Church-style hazards-for-your-own-good reaction?

Yeah, I had to check. I thought I had set it to CC / Non Commercial Uses. For a while there I actually had it in my mind to take a stock of area cycling photos that anyone could use for any purpose. Problem is, I suck as a photographer.
Years ago I somehow was staring at this photo
See Blog Post. It just struck me as odd. Seemed like, isnt that Bluemont Park? It just looks so familiar. OH YEAH. I took that picture of a Lost Dog Rescue 5K. And it had the same CC license on it. Ended up on a Sniff Seattle blog.

BTWD Pointless Prizes!
What am I supposed to do with this? – Best Non-bike related swag
Gros Michel Award – The most perfectly ripe banana
Officer Friendly Award – Most dangerous action/environment in the name of “Safety”
BTWD Arlington Loopy – Rider who visits the most of the seven Arlington BTWD pit stops. Photo evidence required. Winner is decided by banana and bagel eating contest.April 7, 2016 at 1:08 pm #1050660rcannon100ParticipantHEY knock it off!!! This thread is about me!
