I will have a Cafe Campesino from Juan Valdez in solidarity.

You’ll have to tell us how it went. It was 26 degrees when I left at 6 a.m., which is the coldest of the season so far, so you picked a good one.
Thanks guys. It was cold, but not bad once I got moving. After biking to coffee club, and then to work, my toes were a little cold. I do have foot warmers in my bag. And parts of my backside took a while to get warm. I’ll be back.
Freezing Saddles – I dunno. How much colder than this? BRRRRRNovember 23, 2016 at 9:19 pm #1060853JuddParticipant@streetsmarts 149426 wrote:

Freezing Saddles – I dunno. How much colder than this? BRRRRRI might be revising history but it seemed like the weather for most of Freezing Saddles last year was similar to today, with a few cold and windy days and a few days in March where it actually seemed warm. I’ll take a look at my rides from last year and see what Strava says the temperature was.

There’s still hope, Bobco. I didn’t start drinking coffee until I was 35.

They look dim just sitting there when not spinning, and from above you can’t really tell. I may need to get a pic or video taken.
Either the fixie is getting slower, or I am. Blaming the bike is easier, but it’s such a simple piece of equipment that that approach is certainly the wrong one.

I have Wheel Brightz and love them. Very bright and I only just replaced the batteries after about a year. People really like seeing them too, they get a lot of compliments.
Anyone else brave the rain this morning? When rain is forecast for both AM and PM commute, I usually wimp out for the Metro but it was just so warm, even the downpour at National didn’t depress my mood!

I was out there with my Nite Ize again. If I go to work, it’s by bike. This morning was trickier though because it was too warm for a rain jacket (for me)–even my softshell I don’t like to wear over 55 degrees. So that meant the risk of having wet clothes, but I got in before the real rain picked up. I won’t care how hard it rains going home, and we need the rain.
November 30, 2016 at 4:03 pm #1061041workthewebParticipantI rode in without the jacket this morning, too. It was warm enough to be a very pleasant ride. The amount of water I was wringing out of my gloves and kit this morning was comical. I’m actually hoping it rains on the way home as there is very little chance that my clothes will be dry by the time I leave.
November 30, 2016 at 4:14 pm #1061043JuddParticipantThere was not a part of me that was not dripping this morning. I didn’t put the rain pants on this morning so water dropped into my waterproof socks which are as good at keeping water in as they are at keeping water out. I poured about a half cup of water out of them. No chance that I won’t be riding home in wet socks tonight.
Small crowd of bad asses at HDCC today.

I have some Sealskinz dry socks I use for boating that I’ve never tried for biking for that very reason.
*The comfort isn’t actually priceless–you could indeed actually pay me to ride in wet socks.
November 30, 2016 at 5:00 pm #1061045bobco85ParticipantIt was nice seeing everyone (smaller group today) at HDCC. I enjoyed seeing the fog on the W&OD Trail, and I was prudent in having my rain jacket and waterproof backpack cover on because it ended up raining for the last 15 minutes of my commute. I also like the fact that the inside of my backpack still smells like the banana chocolate chip muffin that I later ate for breakfast
For dealing with wet clothes after arriving at work, I have the following set-up:
- I gerry-rigged a curtain rod (regular kind, used scissors to help cut and bend the ends) to fit over my cubicle
- I have clothes hangars for each item of clothing for air-drying
- I have dryer sheets to deal with any smells
- Shirts/shorts/pants/sweatcap/jacket/backpack cover get hung up, each spaced apart by a couple of inches
- Gloves and socks (didn’t wear socks today, as Dave noted at HDCC) get stuffed with a dryer sheet and hung up
- Shoes get stuffed with a dryer sheet and spare paper (junk mail coupon sheets work well, or printer paper if I get desperate) and positioned with the toe on top against a wall
In general, I tend to have to replace the batteries in my Nite Ize spoke lights every 2-3 months as they will dim as the batteries lose power. I buy the batteries online and in bulk, so it’s not much of an issue to replace them.

I have 5 George Washingtons with your name on it if you trade me socks today. I suspect that this will mean that you will have wet, ridiculously floppy socks on the way home and I will have dry toe covers.
I actually meant to pack an extra set today and then got distracted. I’ll stow some backups in my locker tomorrow.
The waterproof socks are new so I’m experiencing the learning curve. They work great for keeping my feet dry when I have the rain pants on or when dealing with just road splash.
