The Park Service has closed the road and trail underpass of the GW Parkway at Fort Hunt Park. No detour is in place for either the trail or the road. If you wish to bypass this, your best bet is to leave the trail at Waynewood Boulevard and wend your way through neighborhood streets to Stratford Lane where you can rejoin the trail at Riverside Park one mile from Mount Vernon.
