ParticipantTunnel of Eternal Darkness is, I believe, Custis. That’s the Tunnel of Eternal Weird Smelling 4MR

ParticipantDealt with that around 11:30am yesterday as well. Recognized the need and clicked on my lights before we went in, but… sunglasses and eyes that had no opportunity to acclimate still meant a perilous passage through the work crew and their trucks.
Now, working lights? Finally? To my way of thinking, that is such a long and dark “tunnel” that those lights need to be on full-time. A perfect LED light fixture application (In case someone hits you with the “We can’t afford it” arguement). Even better- current road practice would have brighter lighting to match daytime light levels, dimming down to a lower level at night.

ParticipantJust to confirm the trucks are still out there on 4MR doing electrical work – seemed to be installing lights when I passed by this AM, but did not stop to check.
Just be careful – there is more than enough space for a single bike to get through, and two bikes can pass one another if both riders are careful…

ParticipantHoping they get it done by Happy Hour. That was going to be the Consularrider’s going away present.

Participant@ Tim Kelley, as of this morning things looked exactly as per PeteD’s earlier picture. Three trucks lined up to allow a lane for bikes/pedestrians to ride past.

ParticipantTree down on the Ffx Cross County Trail near Fairfax Circle. Lots of poison ivy on it so be careful if you need to get over it.
Kudos to Fairfax City Parks and Rec! I called this morning to report it and left a message. It turns out that it’s in Fairfax County’s jurisdiction but Greg from the city called me back to let me know that he contacted the county to get it taken care of.

ParticipantThe vegetation on the TR Bridge was completely cleared yesterday afternoon. It was nice having the full path back — I was getting ready to bring my clippers again.

They need to trim the section of the W&OD between Reston and Sterling. Did some serious ducking yesterday morning.

ParticipantTrees were down across the W&OD by the Vienna Community Center when I went through this evening just before 7:00. Pretty sure the giant tractor turning into the parking lot was there to clear them, so they’re probably gone already.

ParticipantLots trees down in isolated areas. Microbursts in the storm, so some places look like they were bombed and a few feet over it’s like nothing happened.

ParticipantSimilar Sand Trap of Death under the first bridge you come to after you pass the entrance to the Custis heading east on W&OD (bluemont-ish area? Sorry, I usually make that left on the Custis so I’m not as familiar with trail markers along that section).
