ParticipantThe W&OD between EFC and Tysons is as expected – about an inch of snow, and the ruts have already begun to form. A motor vehicle’s gone over some sections, so there’s a reasonably nice track to follow those bits, but when the melty-refreezy happens later today, things are likely going to get annoying.
WE’RE ALL GOING TO BE SLIGHTLY INCONVENIENCED!!

ParticipantCan anyone comment on the status of the WOD between Eads Street and the start of the Custis (or I am simply getting confused)?

The WOD stops at the Weenie Beenie – the 4 Mile Run Trail runs from there the Mt Vernon Trail (passing Eads) so you’re probably really asking for the status of the 4MR Trail from Eads to the Weenie Beenie and the WOD from the Weenie Beenie to the start of the Custis.
Does that make sense?
And sorry – I don’t know. I drove today (and I’m sad about it).

Participant@ Chris_s, yes you are correct, my mistake. I meant Four Mile Run… still getting to know all the names.
Interested in commuting across the 14th Street Bridge, Gravelly Point, Four Mile Run, WOD from Weenie Beenie to Custis. I assume the wooden bridges on the WOD will be treacherous, but the rest?

14th street bridge had a dusting and is rideable on a unicycle. MVT has snow. 4MR is clear. WOD is not. I felt comfortable on 32s with studs. Some folks can probably do it on slicks but I wouldn’t recommend it.

ParticipantAt 10 AM I rode on 32 tire:
14St bridge – Little dusting
MVT up to 4MR – Some light snow towards the city and clear after the airport – No problem
4MR -there is clean and clear – Arlington does it bestJanuary 27, 2015 at 10:59 pm #1021505wheelswings
ParticipantGrateful for any evening trail reports. Thanks!!

ParticipantMVT from the CCC to Trollhiem was clear. The wooden boards were snow packed with slush underneath. TR bridge was clear.

ParticipantMVT from Slaters Lane, Alexandria to and over the 14th St bridge was clear and mostly dry. Few wet spots that might freeze overnight but very manageable. Airport bridges were clear and dry.

Participantapologies but what sections of trail do these acronyms refer to:
CCC
IoD
Trollheim?January 28, 2015 at 1:13 am #1021513rcannon100
ParticipantHi Mark
IoD is Intersection of Doom aka Lynn and Custis in Rosslyn
Trollheim is the wooden boardwalk under 66 along the MVT. NPS put some sort of paint on it to make it super slick whenever wet, and thus it is always taking down cyclists. ergo, the troll under the bridge.
CCC I believe is Crystal City Connector between MVT and Crystal City at the Airport.January 28, 2015 at 1:14 am #1021514bikenurse

ParticipantNE Branch trail in Prince George’s is completely clear, at least the parts I rode from Riverdale to Greenbelt tonight. I’d bet the sections closer to DC are also clear. Looking forward to getting back to the full commute tomorrow — this virus has been annoying but I think I’m finally getting better. At least the colorway of my snot rockets has gone from bright lemon yellow to a mellow tangerine, and I’m interpreting that as improvement. -Jeff

ParticipantAs of around 18:00 this evening:
1. 14th Street Bridge is 99% clear. Easy ride (minus that wind).
2. MVT from 14th to Trollheim was a bit wet but virtually no snow/slush/ice.
3. Trollheim was rideable slush that was getting crunchy.
4. Custis was wonderful. Thanks again Arlington Co!
