Calling all members of Freezing Saddles 2016 Team 9! Seems someone saw fit to appoint me the acting team captain. I will try and act like one at least. (update) Dkel is the real one.

We are Team 9 for a reason. http://www.velominati.com/the-rules/ Rule #9 is the essence of Freezing saddles. We have been honored as a team to carry the very Number of foul weather riding itself.

Rule #9. “If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period.
Fair-weather riding is a luxury reserved for Sunday afternoons and wide boulevards. Those who ride in foul weather – be it cold, wet, or inordinately hot – are members of a special club of riders who, on the morning of a big ride, pull back the curtain to check the weather and, upon seeing rain falling from the skies, allow a wry smile to spread across their face. This is a rider who loves the work.”

Looks like there a couple of things to do to get started. One is to all chime in, introduce ourselves and the other is for us all to log in to Strava and join our Team Rule 9 velo club https://www.strava.com/clubs/175460

“Hi I am Kurt M in the game, I live in the falls church / tysons area and ride a bike. I like long walks on the beach, puppies, sunsets and….” Oh sorry, wrong profile.

I will set up a Strava group for us to use to follow the team and use for communicating. (Done, see above) Please let me know who you are on Strava here or via PM so I can send you a Strava invite. Ideas for a team name, (Team Rule 9 perhaps? ) rides we can do together and anything that comes to mind please chime in.

More later, got to herd some slightly energetic kids off to bed. Let the rides and smack talk begin!

    Go team 9!

Does anyone know SolidCycle62? He’s the only holdout for our Strava club. I sent an email to him, but haven’t gotten any response. I also checked his Strava page, and he hasn’t been riding in more than a week. Anyone have any other ideas how to reach him, or if he’s even participating?

A couple of things I’ve used:

    1. Follow him on Strava. Once you’ve done this, you can use the invite button on the club’s Strava page (assuming you’re an admin) to invite him to the club.
    2. Post a comment on his most recent ride, asking him both to authorize Freezing Saddles to read his Strava data and to join the club.

Good luck! If neither of those works, you can ask Sunyata for a replacement.

Sunyata and I are in conversation. He hasn’t been riding for more than a week, so I’m not sure Strava is on his radar. Also, people sign themselves up for this thing, so I’m only willing to go so far to get people to follow through; after all, if the interest isn’t really there, I’m not sure placement on a team is desirable anyway!

Hey Guys – introducing myself, not sure if I met all of you at the HH. MK, but screen name can be Marlon sometimes. Will try to get a couple miles in during the week and 25 – 35+ on the weekends! Looking fwd to help getting us on the leaderboard.

Nice to see people were riding today. Does everyone have snow tires?

Running Schwalbe Marathon Winters right now, good combination of bite in the ice without as much of a hit in rolling resistance I’ve experienced in other studded tires (still slower than regular tires, naturally). Ended up riding in the peak of the blizzard today, was the fastest growing snow beard I have had while riding.

Here is an alternative lap that is apparently rideable — a subset of the HPH crew have been riding this. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/7129135

Good to know about both of those pieces of information. I like that alternate Ride With GPS route. 9 am Sunday work? Gives some time for any black ice to melt.
