Participant2/20/2021 Photo from Great Height
I knew I wasn’t going to have much of an opportunity to catch a cyclist from a great height as the only two places I could get any height on my ride were in the Fairfax Corner parking garage (no cyclists anywhere to be found) and the Monument Drive bridge over I-66 (better not be any cyclist on the interstate). This photo shows west bound I-66 at Monument Drive.

Participant2/20/21 – overhead shot / such great heights / USPS
On the footing of the old Georgetown aqueduct bridge. Gratuitous inclusion of ‘the District Sleeps Alone Tonight’ CD single, which includes a remix version of ‘Such Great Heights’.

On 2/20/1792 – The Postal Service Act, establishing the United States Post Office Department, is signed by President George Washington. 211 years later, one of my favorite albums – Give Up – was released by the band The Postal Service in 2003. On this album is a song called “Such Great Heights” and it is the theme for the photo hunt for the day.
On your ride, 229 years after the original Postal Service was created, take a creative photo from a high vantage point looking downwards, whether atop a bridge, overlook, or somewhere else that’ll give you a great overhead view. Bonus point if there is a clearly discernible biker in the photo. BTW, no selfies/danger pandas for this hunt.
Happy hunting!
Here is my creative photo, with bonus biker. I love using an app called Color Splash, in case anyone wonders how I achieved this effect.

Argh – we should have coordinated better and met there. I would have been your model biker, and you mine!
Yeah, I was kicking myself for not having the foresight to coordinate with another FS zealot! I messaged you my mobile. Next time!

Taken from Arch Bridge above where I-70 goes over Braddock Mt. (A bit west of Frederick).
It was too cold and windy for bikers, but I did get a trucker.

This is the TJ overpass over Arlington Blvd. (Route 50) from Thomas Jefferson Middle School in Arlington, VA. I would have tried the trails but the trails near me are still ice-bound, as can be seen by the right half of the ramp in this imagge.
Usually there are bikers crossing either on this overpass, or at the light on the corner. Alas, it was cold and windy, and didn’t see any bikers, so the only cycle I got was mine. I promise, there was no Panda Danger!

2/20/2021 — overhead picture. I had the same thought as CaseyKane50, the MVT from the Woodrow Wilson Bridge. My cold and windy wait atop the bridge was rewarded with not one, not two, but three riders:

Ooof that had to have been brutal today. The wind felt stabby in my ride today.

I don’t see other folks’ strava routes – just responding to her posting, “From my balcony” … if I had that view and today’s wind that we had, I would have thought twice about going out. Alas, I had to go out and discover there were no other cyclists out when I was.

Set now. Next time. I need to get smarter. Maybe 2022 Freezing Saddles I’ll be quicker on the uptake!

Looks like I had a similar idea to LhasaCM, but this biker saved me from going up the Rhode Island Ave metro bridge. -
