    Cycling Friends:

With the Do More 24 campaign in full swing, we promised to check-in with a few Phoenix Bikes stories throughout the day.

Donald Herndon first came to Phoenix Bikes in February 2012 as an 8th grader from Jefferson Middle School. Not long after he started, a little mischief by him and a friend led to some court-ordered community service, and we knew Donald was going to be spending a lot of time with us. We’re happy to report that he fulfilled his obligation without incident and put in extra hours, enough to earn a bike, too. He has been coming back just about every month, continuing to volunteer and give back.

Here he is this week, now a freshman at Washington-Lee High School, proudly displaying the Fixie he built with brand new toe straps that he just put on.
“The best thing I like about Phoenix Bikes is the service to community,” he said. “And the bikes.”
Donald is just one of the 80 kids who came through our little shop last year, and we’ve already 80 participate this year, including 45 new to the program.

Please support Phoenix Bikes, if you can, and spread the word.
