Covid-caused question: can you replace batteries in blinkies?

You know you are really looking for things to do when you look at a dead blinky light and think “How can I revive it?”

So, does any know if it is possible to (and makes sense to) replace the button battery used in a blinky?

Yes you can. Pry off the black cover and you’ll see the CR2032 battery.

Just opened one that was sitting on my desk. Mine’s yellow body and white cap, but looks the same otherwise.

Yes, very easy to replace. Requires 2 CR2032 batteries.

My recollection is that it makes some sense financially (if you don’t value your time or find the process cathartic or something) as long as you’re buying your CR2032s online. At CVS battery prices it’d be a money-loser.

Dollar Tree sells CR2032 batteries. 2 for $1, but I see newer packaging to 1 for $1, but it seems they reverted to 2 for $1. They also sell 4Pack Alkaline batteries(AA and AAA) for $1.

You can find CR2032s on line for under 50 cents each, particularly if you buy in quantities of 6 or 10 or more.

The CR2032 batteries are now sold pretty much everywhere nowdays. No longer a treasure hunt. Worth your while to buy at least a 4 pack. Just a matter of if you’re an Energizer guy or Duracell guy.

Important note- these are Lithium cell batteries, and should *not* be thrown in the trash. Your local Arlington Fire Station has a bin outside to *safely* dispose of these.
