OK, now I’m on the edge of my seat. This is the BBS/bike version of “Car Talk.” Someone figure this out and post it back here already!

There you have it. vicegrip not only is a machine but thinks the rest of us should be, too!

I thought this, too, but then thought it was too ridiculous to say it.

(Not sure whether I just complimented you or insulted you.)

My guess would be the front derailleur. Maybe try propping the bike against the wall, and back pedal slowly using your hands to see where it’s dropping off exactly – might give you a clue.

Steve makes a lot of sense. JanaeBixby says this has only happened in the last few weeks — since having a tune up done and the chain replaced as part of that.

Go outside and check your bike tomorrow morning…

If it looks like this, then it’s definitely gremlins:

Wrong. When I back pedal my King hub sounds like this and it amuses me. A lot.

ha! I rest my case…..only reason is because We Want To

As to the stump the chump at hand. Agree it is likely chain or worn out chainring related rather than FD or tune related. If the FD was out of tune it would likely drop or chatter during use.

dont drive like my brother !

We really should have a Stump the Chumps thread. There are enough maintenance-related questions to do it. My solution was immediately declared wrong, so I was Ray on that one.

The “Tom Magliozzi Memorial Stump the Chumps” thread.

So for those of you who want to keep Tania on your good side, just learn to make that sound.
