I know we’ve had this discussion a number of times already but it appears lots of changes and new products have appeared since our last thread. I am about to buy a video camera for both my bicycle and to also capture video of manufacturing processes in my cabinet and furniture shop. I am considering a GoPr although I am still unhappy with their bulkiness. GoPro does seem to have a good portion of the market with many companies providing aftermarket support and products, especially mounts which is useful. I intend on mounting the camera under my handlebars using a K-Edge mount on both my bikes. I am essentially using the camera on the bike to document my commute and in the worst case provide evidence in the case of an accident. I also love the idea of shooting some fun videos, and using it as a new marketing tool in my company…. thus the interest in GoPro over specific cycling brands such as Garmin and Shimano.
Some of my needs/wants:
– Must be able to shoot video while charging or plugged in
– Removable battery (ability to carry/use spares)
– Time Lapse if possible, although post processing time lapse will do
– Real time playback and preview, WIFI or BT with a phone or tablet would be sufficient
– Ease of use and mounting, quick-release mounts for quick change between bikes and other purposes (memorized mount position would be nice)
– Simultaneously shoot video and pictures (although not completely necessary if captured stills from the videos are high quality)
– Good still camera
– Zoom adjustment to dial in the field of viewSo far it looks as if the GoPro Hero3+ Black edition is the only one that meets all these desires, although I would prefer to stay in the $300 range.
Thoughts?
