Mark your calendars! Save the date! The February edition of the Bicycle Fun Club will occur on Presidents Day on Monday, February 20th. I’ll be leading a ride chock full of sites and useless trivia related to Unites States Presidents. I have a general idea of some sites that we’ll visit (about 10) and length (about 20 miles) but I’m still doing some research and working out the route. Stay tuned to this thread for additional details.
Date: Monday, February 20th
Time: Gather at 10:30 and ride at 11:00
Place: Starbucks at 1501 17th St N – https://goo.gl/maps/Ex7BZDauwfwDid you know?: Although Presidents Day was first created to celebrate the birth of President George Washington, the holiday doesn’t ever occur on his actual birthday (February 22nd) anymore.
Frequently Asked Questions about the BFC:
Q: What’s the Bicycle Fun Club?
A: The Bicycle Fun Club is a (usually) monthly bicycle ride that is casually paced and involves visiting some site or event. Past events have included a visit to Great Falls, and multiple Christmas light viewing rides.Q: Is the Bicycle Fun Club way more fun than Steve O’s Midnight Saddles Rides?
A: Yes! They’re twice the fun and they avoid all the indigestion from late night greasy diner food.February 1, 2017 at 3:27 am #1065177JuddParticipantAre you getting amped for the President’s Day Ride yet? The date and time have been set.

So sad.February 1, 2017 at 3:07 pm #1065204JuddParticipant@Sunyata 154057 wrote:

That’s good! Because you definitely don’t want to miss out on learning what DC Presidential monument once contained a quarter mile bicycle track!

It seems that Bob James is interested in learning how the Watergate Hotel got it’s name. Old people will remember the Watergate Hotel as the site of the 1972 break in of the Democratic National Headquarters that ultimately led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon.
Don’t let Bob James be the only person to know this piece of trivia! Plan to attend the awesome Bicycle Fun Club Presidents Day Ride!

Will there be a stop on your route for some Presidential celebratory doughnuts?
Kate

Now If I could only get tech savvy and figure a way to get some type of reminder of this. (I’m old, and my mind isn’t what it used to be!!)

There is a very strong possibility that we will stop at the John F Kennedy Center for the performing Arts and eat a doughnut in honor of President Kennedy’s June 26, 1963 proclamation that, “I am a jelly doughnut.”
