The PLACEmark icon is used by the Ballston BID to promote Ballston. It’s clearly also used by PLACEMakr in their logo, as seen in the background.
Note: Makr is an anagram of Mark. And the company is a corporate version of Airbnb, turning apartments into hotel rooms.

This place is Parr’s Spring, the source of the Patapsco River (South Branch).
The little white marker near the right edge of the water is the place where Montgomery, Howard, Carroll & Frederick counties come together.I was going to use it for today’s Bingo, but sadly it’s only listed as Parr’s Spring on maps.

The Boro (Tysons, VA) has had issues with cars parking in PLACEs where they should not, even with no parking signs in PLACE. The well PLACEd cones have deterred parking on the curbs, but not the bike lane. This car is out of PLACE.2/8/24 – I don’t know if this chain still uses the jingle “Ace is the place with the helpful hardware folks!”
2/8/24 – I volunteer regularly at this PLACE. RBH is a nonprofit community bike shop where you learn how to maintain and fix your own bike or you can volunteer to fixed up donated bikes. http://www.rockvillebikehub.org

Lake Thoreau in Reston is a popular PLACE to go for kayaking, stand-up-paddle boarding, canoeing, and cruising around in a party barge. The South Lakes High School STEAM Team, for the past 12 years, has found the Lake Thoreau spillway (a utilitarian drainage platform) to be a great PLACE to install temporary public art installations. The one you see in this photo was installed last year.
2/8/2024 This skeleton seems out of PLACE in this yard. It is out of scale with the house. It is too big for the coffins leaning against the house behind it. It is also the wrong decoration for the current season.

The DC boundary stones were erected to show where one place ended and another began. The sign for this one reads:
THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA BOUNDARY STONES
IN 1790, CONGRESS AUTHORIZED THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A TERRITORY 10 MILES SQUARE ON THE POTОМАС RIVER TO BE THE CAPITAL OF THE UNITED STATES. IT WAS PRESIDENT WASHINGTON’S RECOMMENDATION TO USE LAND ON BOTH SIDES OF THE RIVER. SURVEYOR ANDREW ELLICOTT, NOTIFIED IN 1791 TO PROCEED WITH DESIGNATING THE FEDERAL BOUNDARY BY SECRETARY OF STATE THOMAS JEFFERSON, HIRED ASTRONOMER BENJAMIN BANNEKER, A FREE BLACK MAN. TOGETHER THEY ESTABLISHED THE LOCATION OF 40 SANDSTONE MARKERS SET AT ONE MILE INTERVALS ON LAND CEDED BY MARYLAND AND VIRGINIA FOR THE NATION’S CAPITAL. VIRGINIA RECLAIMED HER LANDS IN 1846. THE STONE IN THIS PARK, SET IN 1792 AT THE TIME OF THE MARYLAND BOUNDARY SURVEY, IS NORTHWEST NUMBER 6 ESTABLISHING THE LOCATION AT SIX MILES NORTH OF THE WEST CORNER STONE. THE BOUNDARY STONES ARE CONSIDERED THE FIRST MONUMENTS ERECTED BY THE UNITED STATES.
