I eventually gave up and continued home.

Unrelated to bad drivers — your post reminded me of the upcoming potential for confusion in the Metro system, once the new station (Blue/Yellow) is built & operational here at Potomac Yard…
That new station will face onto Potomac Avenue (Alexandria.) We’ve been told it will be called Potomac Yard Station. (Maybe by then they’ll decide on “National Landing Station”…)
Since my office building is on Potomac Avenue (Alexandria) I’m envisioning how easily a newbie visitor coming to the office could end up at Potomac Avenue Station in MD by mistake

As described, this is a pretty clear case of assault. I’d recommend reporting it, and contacting the lieutenant for the appropriate district.

I certainly felt threatened, and did call it in, but it was probably classified as a traffic violation and not assault.

They hit you after threatening you. It would be assault if the police took such things seriously.
