    Default Kill Bill 2015

I am starting this thread because I am hoping those with more information will fill in the details. I have heard rumors, but exact date time and place are not to be found here on the Forum.

Also, this would be a good place for fans and supporters of Kill Bill to organize another KBSR (Kill Bill Social Ride). I've heard at least mild interest from sarahybillington and wheels&wings. rcannon, Tania and others were awesome last year. Perhaps they want to spread the joy again.

Although her exact intentions are constantly hidden behind a fusillade of "no comment"s, I hereby appoint kayakcyndi as Senior Advisor Emeritus to those who are interested in organizing the social ride.

Hey folks. You completely have dcv to thank (or blame) for this ride happening. I've had neither the time, nor the resources to put my normal amount of energy into making this ride happen. Thank you for your patience! Thank you Vin for making it happen.

This is the ride event on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/events/426712224172627/ It is public, so you should be able to read the description even if you're not a Facebook member.

This is not a formal charity ride or any kind of sponsored event. It is just a bunch of people getting together to go for a very odd bike ride. This is a self-supported ride! There are water stops at different convenience stores and drinking fountains. You need to be self sufficient on this ride.

I give people the opportunity to donate to an amazing charity. If you do this ride, I ask that you please donate. It means a lot to me.

Incomplete list of things that are impossible about this ride:
    • Climbing: 12,000 feet of climbing in one ride is always difficult. Doing that much climbing broken down into short, steep climbs is 2x as challenging
    • Navigation: 108 miles and almost 500 turns. Modern GPS units fail to navigate this ride. Only one person knows the route by heart.
    • Leading a large group of people on this is impossible -- People at the back of the group may be 2 turns behind the people at the front of the group.
    • It is going to be HOT
    • Did I mention the climbing?

List of things that will make this possible:
    • Ride for the group, not for yourself. I know that is a big ask for a ride this challenging.
    • Have strong riders riding in the middle of the pack -- If you've got legs and lungs, we need you to to help as glue for this ride
    • Communicate -- We'll try to keep the ride together as a group. Open communication will help a lot.
    • Quick water stops. We need to keep these stops as short as possible.... stops of longer than 10 minutes make it very hard keep people's legs going!

Last year's Kill Bill ride group was big at 25. This year looks like we're going to almost double that. I'm not in as good of shape as I was last year, so we've got 7 different ride leaders who are going to guide a section of the ride. This makes it so that no-one has to learn the whole ride. Be good to these people. The guidance they provide will be the only thing that gets you to the finish line.

Lots of people start Kill Bill without the intention of finishing it. There are easy ways to shorten the ride to 50k or 100k. That is good and bad. Nice that you can easily cut the ride short. It stinks if you're hurting and we're riding right past your house at the half-way point.

Thanks for reading. Sorry about the long post. There's a lot to know in order to do this ride.

    Pete

    I maintain "No Comment".

But here is the route I used last year for the KB Social Ride. http://ridewithgps.com/routes/4528775. We didn't stick to it exactly and in fact ended up going down into Rosslyn to watch the group on Fort Myer Drive near Iwo Jima. Regardless, it should be a good starting point for planning and offers many meet-ups with the core group and also took in multiple refreshment stops including:

    - Heidelberg Bakery
    - Italian Store
    - Public House No. 7
    - Frozen Dairy Bar

Pete and I used the Apple Stalker ap "Find my Friends". I could always see where he was on the course and could time our arrivals/departures to ensure we'd meet up with the core.

There are a few times where the main ride will make multiple passes of a street or neighborhood. These make great viewing/cheering locations and include:

    - Powhatan early in the ride (i.e. mile 2.1 on my cue sheet).
    - Jay Miller (26 on the social ride).

    Other not-to-be-missed handup spots are:
    - The top of Quantico
    - Cheering the up Mt. Daniel

I hope to see everyone out there in some capacity!

Blame. It is definitely blame. dcv's forum name should really be Instigator.

Handups? Should I bring my CX bike and my thirst for beer?

    I've been volunteered!

I'll be running (er, helping run, because Tania isn't getting totally off the hook for this ) the social ride that coincides with KB. Haven't had time to really examine the loop, but it will likely closely track the ride Cyndi did last year. Plan on 35ish miles, some cheering, some eating of ice cream, and a lot of "I'm glad I'm not doing the whole thing".

Post up if you're interested, because I'd certainly like to get a rough head count.

    Default Kill Bill 2015

I hate hate HATE hills so I have no idea why I'm stating publicly on this forum that I'm interested in the KBSR. I suppose I'm caving to peer pressure or just want to go hang out with the cool kids. Plus no one ever said I was that smart.

I am "planning" on doing the main ride, but chances are (I have not been doing too many road miles this year or hills...) I will bail at some point after mile 60. If that does happen, I will probably join in on the social ride if you guys are still out and about.
