The Student Conservation Association www.thesca.org has several expense paid internships working on bikes in the D.C. area and we are currently looking for applicants. Do you want an internship where you can work on a bike riding on trails around the city? Work will include public outreach activities out on the Mount Vernon Trail and in the local community; conduct trail patrol activities; quickly and accurately report trail conditions; and engage the public around use and safety and bicycle/walker etiquette. A main objective will be to increase the use of the trails by multiple groups, which will involve some research and communication efforts in the local community. Ambassadors will sponsor trailside outreach activities with educational themes utilizing a mobile ‘Ranger Mount Vernon Trail Visitor Center’. Ambassadors will also organize high profile volunteer trail clean up days with public participants along the trail and adjacent lands.

CWDW Mountain Bike Trail Project Coordinator - LOCAL ONLY

The National Park Service is seeking a project leader for the Civil War Defenses of Washington Mountain Biking Trail repair project at Fort Dupont Park. The Intern will work with park staff to complete identified trail repair projects, coordinate and lead service projects, recruit volunteers, engage community members in outreach programs, develop a CWDW trail ambassador program, lead mountain bike tours, coordinate and support SCA summer trail crews, document projects as they are completed and assist Park Staff at special events. The majority of time will be spent on coordinating/leading trail repair projects and community outreach to promote safe and healthy recreation on the trail. This is a full time position at Fort Dupont Park lasting 12 months. Valid drivers licence is required for this position.
Fort Dupont Park, in Washington DC, is one of the Civil War Forts that is found along the 7 mile Mountain Biking Trail in National Capital Parks-East. The Park offers a variety of resources to visitors including Historic Sites, Civil War History, Recreation Trails, Summer Concerts and Community Gardening. The region offers an abundance of educational and recreational opportunities including Historic park sites, Washington DC monuments and museums, skiing, climbing, fishing, boating, canoeing, hiking, jogging and biking all within a 1-2 hour drive.
