Default PARK(ing) Day, until 3 pm

The annual day when parking spaces are converted to small "parks." goDCgo has an official DDOT space on the 1200 block of G St NW until 3 pm today. Keychains, socks, bike lights, mini cupcakes and other giveaways are available. It's also the birthday celebration of Capital Bikeshare, which turns 4 years old tomorrow.

When I was there around 2:30, Cap Bikeshare was manning the space.
A coworker brought up a sweet pair of bike socks, but they were all gone when I went by.

I pulled up around 10 and asked it they were selling stuff. The guy said "No, do you want socks?" I said yes. I didn't want to seem greedy so I didn't grab a water bottle until the next time I rode by. Gobbled up a couple of tiny but delicious cupcakes too. Should I feel guilty? Because I kinda do.

I took a couple of the CaBi brochures with the coupon codes (free one-day membership; $10 off an annual membership) and gave them to people at work. I also inspired a couple others to drop by. They picked up socks, a CaBi bag, bike lights and CaBi brochures, some of which they gave to yet other people.

I'm not sure how effective my promotion of CaBi is. I do know that several people at work already use CaBi (because I've seen them at the bike stations checking out bikes), but I don't know how many have started riding, on CaBi or on their own bikes, because of me. Hopefully at least one person. I do think I managed to inspire one person to go on a recreational ride this weekend. (I can't go with them because my quads still won't let me ride. I'm not really walking that normally right now either. It's getting there, but I don't think I'll ride again until the end of the month.)

I kept the green bike light for myself, because the batteries on my larger bike lights always seem to die in mid-ride. I grabbed one of the CaBi pedestrian reflectors, designed to be attached to a backpack or jacket. But I think the old-style steel ball-and-pin loop will rust if I use the reflector in the rain.
