Default My morning interaction with motorists.

On the way to daycare on the bakfiets style cargo bike, we got passed pretty closely by a car and right after coming around us the woman immediately pulled into an office parking lot. So I said to myself, lets do this!

The woman gets out of her car and the conversation goes like this:

Me: Hi, I want to introduce you to someone. This is my three year old daughter McKenzie and we're on our way to school!

    Woman: Oh, hi...?

Me: So I need your help with something.

    Woman: Okay?

Me: When you pass a bike can you give us a little more room?

Woman (a little defensive): I'm sorry I didn't realize I was that close.

Me: Yeeaah, you were pretty close to us...

Woman (much more warmly): I'm sorry, yeah you gotta protect the little jewel (indicating my daughter).

Me: No worries, thank you--have a good day!

Woman (as we are turning around to ride off): Please accept my deepest apologies!

Moral of the story is that I'm not above using my children to help educate motorists. And asking the woman to "help" me went a long way in disarming her and putting her in a more receptive mindset.

Kidical for the win! Thanks, Tim, for keeping your head and teaching the driver and your daughter some awesome lessons.

Do you rent your kid out? There are some motorists in Great Falls that could use some shame.

Remarkably sane, I couldn't have done it without apoplexy.

Or maybe use lifelike dolls/figures on more dangerous roads and intersections, so no children are placed in harm's way. It might be interesting to ride with such a figure around the Intersection of Doom.
