Smile Met my recruiting goal for this year

One of my goals is recruiting 3 to 4 bike to work commuters per years. I got 4 bike commuters today. The greatest thing is they’re federal police officers and will commute on bike with their badge and gun.

    Another Happy Day!

Extra points if they can thin the deer herd between Vienna and Reston.

Fairfax county tried, but I dunno if they could hit the side of a barn - shooting from the inside

Unfortunately, none of them is coming from that direction.

Fairfax County tried every year but it doesn't help. They always stare at me during the winter commute.

Not just the winter commute. An hour ago I came close enough to one to start a conversation near Hunter Mill. Also saw some sort of animal that looked like a beaver but I find that hard to believe.

Not to change to subject, but it is very hot out there and I watched two cyclists being carted off in the back of the trail pick-up truck.

Twice in two days, earlier this year, the same pack of 4 or 5 deer were about a mile or so east of vienna, hanging out on the north side of the trail in the same spot. Both times they started running east as I approached, along the north side of the trail. Both times I had to slow to a crawl or stop because they clearly wanted to exit the area to the south, crossing the trail, and I didn't want them running over me to get there.

Be careful out there. And keep an eye open for the suicidal bunnies.

I saw three deer crossing the trail between Cedar and Gallows (close to Cedar) a couple of hours ago. As I rode past they were munching on a tree in a yard.

Congrats on meeting your recruiting goal. I have not been able to convince anyone, at least not that I know of. Of course I have no way of knowing how many "if that old lady can do it, I bet I can" cyclists I have inspired.

I saw a snake on the trail at Roosevelt Island this weekend and thought exactly the same thing. Oh, Internet...

I ran over one as I past the town of Vienna last week. I didn't see it until I already roll on top of it.

When I was learning to deal with clipping in and clipping out I fell frequently. Then I saw my first snake somewhere around Reston and was immediately cured. "Snake" doesn't quite capture the python-like qualities of some of those beasts, they're like something you'd see on Animal Planet.

    Happy trails,
