To the driver that insisted on driving full speed through the huge puddle on Thomas Ave between the Reagan-National economy parking lot and the MVT (Milepost 13), thanks for the shower last night, made me really appreciate my rain cape.

You: driver who mistook the opposing traffic lane for a left turn lane when coming into the north pentagon lot from Washington Blvd
Me: Glad you had at least already reached the intersection so I didn't have to deal with the confusion (or collision) when you suddenly veered into the wrong lane.

The west side of the TR Bridge was a similar situation this morning. There was some standing water right at the exit ramp to the GWMP and cars were hitting it at full speed, sending up quite a spray...thankfully, the puddle was juuuuust small enough and far enough from the path to avoid soaking me, but if the puddle gets any bigger, it could be a serious problem.

Also, I got a nice shower last night from the runoff from the Washington & Lee parking lot over the Custis...no danger of toxic car chemicals there at all

I'm sure glad drivers know it's safer to drive slower in wet conditions.

You: Woman in a Jeep Wrangler, going east bound on South Four Mile Run Drive
Me: Cyclist riding south on the W&OD, decked out for the cold and wind.

I know you had the green light, and I had a green walk light, but I'm not sure you saw me as you started your left turn across from the Barcroft Sports and Fitness center. I had enough time to plot out relative velocities and trajectories to know that even if you had seen me, we would have indeed met, as your drivers side door would have been the only thing that would have separated us. So with my lobster gloves, I went to squeeze my brake handles. I was then able to utilize my left shoulder, my lower back, and my helmet to employ Newton's laws to ensure that friction kept us apart. Sorry that my clipless pedals didn't hold on long enough, and decided to throw my bike at you, but as expected, they missed as you were already in the crosswalk by the time my bike came to rest in the intersection behind you.

And I will say this for the WABA phone app. It's kind of useless when you're in a daze and in pain.

Ditto. Got to ride the curl on Memorial Bridge on Tuesday night. I was futzing with my gloves and didn't see it coming - the momentary anger was quickly subdued by the awesomeness that was riding home that night.

Oh no PeteD! I hope it wasn't too serious. Did the police come?

You: Folder guy running the light at 14th and Girard NW
Me: Appreciating the "On your left" call. You got it halfway. Maybe next time you can obey traffic signals.

You: Giant white SUV failing to yield from Thomas Circle onto M St
Me: The cyclist who yelled "HEY!". Thanks for telegraphing the right turn, though a signal and a yield would have been preferable. And thanks for at least paying enough attention to stop when I yelled. That's probably because you had your window down to let the cigarette smoke out. Might be the first time smoking has made someone healthier.

On the bright side, I had a nice conversation at R with another cyclist about the mustache that Dickie made that's still on my bike, then about the Lyft car-sharing service that uses a similar mustache.
