Default MVT closed north of Humpback Bridge because of flooding (4/18/11)

ARLnow has pictures of that section of the trail. Some people are riding on the grass, next to the GW Parkway. Be careful if you're doing that. The improvised path is pretty close to the cars.

The section between Memorial Bridge and the 17 Milepost was still closed this morning (Tuesday at 8 am). The flood waters had mostly receded leaving a thin layer of slimy mud behind, some standing water, and a couple of logs. Some cyclists were riding around the barriers and through the mess while others stayed on the upper route along the Parkway.

There were still barriers up this morning near Memorial Bridge at 8 am Wednesday. Most of the water is gone, but there was still a 50 +/- stretch of slimy mud that many riders were going through. Others still riding in the grass along side the Parkway.

How's the MVT north of Humpback looking this morning? I have been using the southern approach to the 14th Street Bridge.

It's dry and open all the way. The area just north of Memorial Bridge has a thin coating of dried mud that is slowly wearing off with the traffic of the past two days. May get slippery again tomorrow with the predicted rain.
