I have a hard time picturing how the new cycle track will connect to the rest of Fairfax drive. Won't you end up on the wrong side of the street if you're coming from the Custis trail, take the new cycle track -- then you need to cross Glebe right?

Yes, but you have to cross anyway at some point to get over to the other side of the road. Currently you can choose to cross at Wakefield or ride the sidewalk to Glebe. I do both, depending on the color of the signal. Then same at Glebe, I either cross Glebe first and then Fairfax or the other way round, depending on which way the walk signal is. The cycle track would help eliminate conflict with peds on the sidewalk and make cyclists more visible and less vulnerable to traffic turning on and off of Fairfax.

Bike lanes, sharrows and signs are being installed on Jamieson Lane. Jamieson runs from South West Street to the intersection of Mill Street and Andrews Lane.

Jamieson and Mill provide an alternative route to the eastern end of Eisenhower and allows you to bypass the bridge that spans over Telegraph Road.

The City has added the bike people to the bike lanes and sharrows.

Bike lanes have been installed on North Chambliss Street. The bike lanes run on Chambliss from North Morgan Street and Larsen Drive. The bike lanes connect to the Holmes Run Trail and the Chambliss Bridge crossing Holmes Run.






The transition to and from the bike path is a bit awkward.

Didn't stop to take pictures, but they were working on resurfacing Commonwealth Avenue in Alexandria this AM between Monroe Ave and Braddock. This stretch was bad to begin with, but had become exceptionally torn up/potholed over the winter. Given that it's an important N-S bike route in Alexandria, the resurfacing alone will be a huge improvement, and while I'm not aware of any plans to do anything else, converting some of the areas w/ sharrows to full-on bike lanes would be a nice add-on to the project.

Oh! I am so hoping they resurface all of Commonwealth Ave. It really, really needs it and I use it all the time to avoid the MVT. Fingers crossed!

I'm extremely pleased that they're repaving that section. The asphalt there has gotten absolutely awful. I agree with KLizotte, though, that repaving the entire road would be nice. There are a few other bumpy spots on Commonwealth, the first being near Cora Kelley School and the second being the sharrows just north of the train bridge at King Street.
