I'm brand spanking new to this forum. Hi everyone!
The weather's starting to get warmer, and I'm itching to start biking to school. The problem: I've moved since last summer, so I need a new bike rout. I live in Van Ness and go to school at GW (so I would be biking to Foggy Bottom).
I'd rather a more scenic rout because 1) I like them more, and 2) I prefer not biking in heavy traffic. If anyone has any ideas of how to get from Van Ness to Foggy Bottom that is not too congested, I'd love to hear it.
With that criteria, I'd suggest you use the Rock Creek Park Trail. While it probably doubles the distance you'd have to ride, it's off street and scenic. You'll still have to negotiate around runners and other cyclists.
Google Maps and Ride the City are good routing tools that can give you specifics based on your starting and ending addresses.
I agree with Tim. I'd suggest trying Rock Creek to start - it's a bit circuitous but car-free and very scenic. Bring a light if you're riding after dark. Leave the trail and huff it up the hill at P St NW, and then head over to GW. http://tinyurl.com/4zappdd
Once you get used to it you can try other options. Mass Ave. might be okay. Connecticut is the most direct but can be pretty heavy traffic depending on the time of day. It all depends on your comfort level, I guess. Good luck!
