Stolen Fuji road/commuter bike

I had my bike stolen Thursday in Rosslyn from near Dark Star Park. Middle of the day.

Fuji steel frame, mostly silver with some red accents. When it was taken it had fenders, an Old Man Mountain rack and a Brooks saddle, like in the photo.

I had registered it with ACPD probably 10-12 years ago. However, no one I called at the PD seemed to have the slightest clue what good that might do. I was hoping that it would be possible to find the registration, which would have the serial # (that I seem to have lost).

Oh man, I'm so sorry to hear that. Did it have a u-lock on it? Am curious as to how someone stole it in broad daylight like that.

It's a pretty distinctive looking bike so I hope you are able to recover it soon.

Oh no! What kind of lock were you using?

How long had you been away from it?

Did you fill out a police report? It is important that there is an official record of bicycle thefts, so the county has data to know that where the problems are that need to be addressed.

Update:
Yes, I filed a report. I also heard back from Officer Heather Hurlock. She was able to provide me with the ACPD registration # and the serial number. I was pleased with her quick response.
It was locked with a cable lock, admittedly insufficient. It was cut through obviously quite easily. It had to be a bold thief, though, because it was parked on a rack with another bike in a reasonably busy area in broad daylight (the other bike is still there, with its U-lock). I was gone for several hours.

On the other hand, my bike guy told me that the head tube is warped, and I've been keeping my eye out for a new frame. This will just accelerate the process. The Brooks saddle is a sad loss.

We've been kicking the idea of cable locks vs. u-locks around the office lately, and in our anecdotal experiences, we have rarely heard of anyone around here having their bike stolen if it has a u-lock on it. I'm sure it happens, just probably a lot less frequently Anyone have similar experiences?

IIRC, when my bike was stolen from the Ballston metro station in 2008, it, among others, was locked with a u-lock. I noticed a whole bunch of broken locks of different varieties (including u-locks) lying on the ground when I returned. I guess it was a "professional job" because they clearly had the capacity to take a lot of bikes at once and were prepared to deal with any type of lock.

Aaah, that sucks, sorry to hear that Steve. But sounds like there is a little silver lining.

Thanks everyone. The other silver lining (sort of) is that my "winter wheel" is safely at home in the shed. That's my custom laced wheel with the generator hub I use during the dark months. The light was on the bike (you can see the wire winding up the front fork), but that's more easily replaceable.
When I look at the pic, I feel sad like I just lost a girlfriend. Weird how one develops a close relationship like that--I guess especially since I had had her for more than 10 years.
