Nice cold Sunday morning for the Difficult Run MTB loop. Ground mostly frozen and dry. Lots of fun. Even found a trail that was new to me.

I spent the last week riding, hiking, and chillin' in the desert Southwest. It was my first time in Sedona, and it became one of my favorite places I've biked in the U.S. I also spun a bit in Vegas, and it beats hanging out in smoky casinos by a mile. Here are a few shots of or by me.

Am most curious about the bike tree. Are those old destroyed bikes on there? They seem to have water bottles, so perhaps it is just a tree where folks stop and hang their bikes up to take pics.

I spent a brief amount of time in Sedona when I did my Arizona trip (Phoenix, Sedona, Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam, Las Vegas) a few years ago, but I only did a bit of hiking in Red Rock State Park (I biked around Phoenix). It's still very striking how much red soil there is in that state! I hope you didn't encounter any rattlesnakes!

The bikes are not destroyed. They range in (new retail) price from $1000 to almost $10K.

We used to joke around when on breaks and hide the bikes of those not paying attention by hanging them on trees. One of my friends noticed it looked cool, embraced the idea, and started hanging his own bike on trees to take pictures. Now it's our tradition to do it once in a while if the situation presents itself.

Thanks Bob! Sorry to break it to you, but the ones labeled Southwest Ridge are from a trail called Ike's Peek that overlooks the Las Vegas Strip. But yes, I agree with you that the sunsets are amazing in Arizona, especially when paired with the mountains in the backdrop. Don't want to bore y'all with non-bike pics, but I took this one from the top (without needing ropes) of Cathedral Rock in Sedona:

Regarding the red soil, yes, I love how it looks, but it's really fine and gets everywhere and into everything as I found out while I was breaking down and boxing my bike last night. I might have to dismantle the rear assembly on my bike because I found red dust in the pivots and other places you don't want it to be.
