Default not quite a pot hole and the county is ignoring me

I have reported this issue--a water meter hole without a cover and ringed in jagged metal--twice on the county report-a-problem website, first over a month ago. They don't seem intent on repairing it. It's right in the middle of the Clarendon Blvd bike lane at Adams street. Sure, in broad daylight it is easy to miss, but hitting it accidentally would not be pleasant.
Does anyone have a contact in the county?
There is also a fair amount of rock in the same bike lane just up the hill approaching Veitch. I have generally found the county addresses this fairly quickly, but this seems like a weird oversight in a very prominent place. Since my worst fall was from hitting a rock, I am sensitive to their presence!

Default Dangerous Pothole Next to Netherlands Carillon

Careful if you ride down Marshall Drive (the downhill that goes from the back gate of Fort Meyer, where Meade Street ends, along the cemetery and Netherlands Carillon and Iwo Jima Memorial) to Route 110. Very deep and long pothole.

I contacted Arlington, which informed me that it's NPS jurisdiction. I called NPS and reported it. Fingers crossed that they fix it soon.

<RANT>This drives me frickin' crazy. Citizens should not have to research who owns what, yada yada. The County should have said, "thankyouverymuch" and then worked with NPS on your behalf (and the behalf of everyone who uses that road). For one, they more likely know who to reach out to and how to reach out. Making the citizens do the work is sucky government.</RANT>

WTF? Wasn't this the location where an ACPD officer told a cyclist to ride in the gutter pan because of the road width just a few months ago?

But the Arlington road condition map

    https://arlgis.maps.arcgis.com/apps/...2f4cb19df24ccf

shows Marshall as not having a condition recorded, so it might belong to the NPS.

Welcome to my life. I once contacted Arlington, who said a trail was NPS, then NPS said it was Arlington, and then Casey let me know it was likely Alexandria...only to have David B (a wonderful mvt volunteer) fix it within a few days saving everyone the effort, even though the issue wasn't on the MVT. I spent over a week back and forth until it was sorted out.

Alexandria did agree it was theirs though if future issues arose.

It’s a doozy and at this location only taking the full lane is remotely safe. Just waiting for an Arlington cop to give me my annual ticket and mansplainy lecture

You could "explain back" to the ACPD that they're in murky territory jurisdiction-wise on that road. That's my normal commute route and I've only ever seen JBMHH (Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall) cops patrolling there. It is a nasty pothole. Usually not a problem to take the lane, moving downhill at a good clip. Hard for anyone to argue you're impeding traffic.

I’ll try that next time. On a side note, I rode it yesterday morning, there was a car behind tailgating me who hit the pothole hard, I dodged. Their windows were open and I heard them cursing. So gratifying; it made my morning

Heh--if they had been paying attention you were their "early warning" device. "Hey, what's that cyclist doing way over to the left?" KER-THUNK... Oh...

Hi Fulton. Are the street signs at Marshall/Meade and Marshall/110 the Arlington colors, black on white? Did someone in NPS actually confirm that this is their land? I called an NPS contact this evening and read him the above description of the location, and based on what you wrote he said your initial instinct was correct…that this road is Arlington County’s land. He said he once had to get Arlington’s permission to transport a heavy truckload for NPS on that very road. He said a lot of people are confused since it runs between monuments.

(But if your NPS person is taking responsibility and has agreed to fix the pothole, then great, they’re welcome to fix it!)
