Default College Park REI closing February 2

Just got an alert that the College Park REI is closing February 2, and is discounting all their bike parts.

A friend sent me this email:
Bike parts - Almost all of it is Shimano and SRAM (no Campy) drive train parts: All 50 percent or maybe more off. If you know what you are looking for and need a part--it may be worth calling them up to see if they have it and then pick it up. There were probably about 100 boxes of parts--all new -- looks like they were just extra parts on hand that the shop had. Some Deore (no xt). A few wheels, some tires (mostly kids sizes, 26 inches, no 700cc, I think mostly fatter trail or mtn tires). A lot of the parts I'm guessing are not current -- but not outdated at all and I think some of the stuff is current--all new though. Derailleurs, shifters, brake levers, cassettes, (didn't see any crank sets or chains--maybe one or two chains).

Most of the stuff they have will be going to other stores but I was there yesterday and saw the best deals on parts that I've seen. (although I've never really shopped for bike components on ebay or auction sites--you may be able find parts there for good prices).

I was there last night and picked up a few things. The stuff that was 50% off I think was stuff (mostly in beat up boxes) that were coming from inside the bike shop, like your buddy said. The regular stuff that's usually in the aisles was not 50% off.

I made the mistake of thinking that all the yakima and thule racks and accessories were 50% off, so I brought up a whole bunch of new stuff just to be told it was just the stuff that was orange-tagged, primarily the display racks and returns. The shiny new boxed stuff was regular price for the most part.

Yes, I get the impression that REI is not going to be holding fire sales to get rid of merchandise. They have no need to. They can just truck everything to another store. Presto, sell with a healthy markup in price to cover the costs of operating in the District.

I was looking for a Camelbak water reservoir in the very same store, and thought I might get a discount, but no dice. I did get 50% off on the energy gels.

    Thanks a ton

    Bob

There are some steep discounts on helmets, clothing, and a few misc. bike items at REI Garage today and tomorrow:

I just bought a pair of Continental Grand Prix 4000S II's for $66.30 from Merlin Cycles, with no shipping cost from the UK. Can't beat that deal.

Go forth and buy bags of performance enhancing chemicals! Or cookie mix.

kinda "off brand" but I would buy if they had a larger size. Would be a nice replacement to the "Smith Army Bike" (budget trailer hauler/gravel grinder). IIRC Access was a sort house brand for mail order company Superego which I believe Performance acquired? http://www.performancebike.com/webap...06950000175622

    Default 20% off Soma!

Soma has a 20% off sale through the 23rd. Now wouldn't be a bad time to be needing a Wolverine frame.

Ok, this is for people who read here often, this is a quick one. Road Runner Bags is having a 4/20 sale where they have 42% off everything on site.

The sale is only today and only for 1 hour! From 4:20 - 5:20 PST!!! That's 7:20 to 8:20 EST.

https://roadrunnerbags.us/ You must use the promo code "LIT420"

I have the burrito supreme handlebar bag and I love it. The make bike bags, backpacks, and a couple of frame bags. Lots of color choices too. They have this really nice new handlebar/saddle bag called the jammer which looks really nice. The promo price is truly a steal for some of these bags.
