Wonderful ride this morning. First ride in over a week due to a chest cold. I half expected to have to stop along the MVT and cough up a lung (I am not completely over the cold, but had enough driving), but I did not - bonus! And while the full-body coughs are a form of exercise, they do not provide the endorphins that a commute to the office provides. I missed those endorphins and feel great (aside from the occasional cough that I am now ignoring).

I was surprised by how few people were out. It is still quite warm, albeit overcast. I guess lots of people have taken time off.

It was just below freezing on my commute this morning. There was a thin layer of frost that sparkled in my lights and looked equally pretty and dangerous. I took great caution crossing each of the bridges on my route and made it without incident to my office in downtown Seattle.

After locking up in the bike cage, I proceeded to go to my desk, grab my clothes to change into, and realize that I had forgotten to bring a dress shirt (I thought I had one in my desk)! Luckily, I was able to head a few blocks away to the nearest clothing store (TJ Maxx) and get something. I usually keep a spare set of clothing at my desk, but today was a bit different. I blame it on the solstice!

Woohoo! I amazingly dressed to perfection this morning. I was quite warm during my commute, but now I am freezing in my office.

Do you think anyone would mind if I built a fire by my desk?

Wouldn't that attract the attention of your employer?

I've got this under my desk.

...since we're not allowed to have "portable heaters".

It's not a "portable heater;" it's a "heavy duty glove and boot dryer."

My Garmin said it was 9 degrees on the east side of the Anacostia this morning. What did y'all get? If true, it would be about equal with my coldest non-sleaze ride ever.

It did feel significant colder than the ride I did in November that was 18F. I can usually keep a pretty good bubble of warmth around my face and stuff on these cold mornings, but riding north into the wind I could feel my cheeks burning a bit from the cold and my beard wasn't just frosty, but frozen.
