Beautiful morning! Sunny and not too many others on the trails. During the part of my route that had me heading west, well, that was less fun with the headwind and I felt like I was going nowhere, especially with the large truck behind me. While I am looking forward to leaving work at the end of the day, I am not looking so much forward to the ride home since it is mostly west and northwest - right into the wind. "It is a good workout" will be my mantra.

Yep, winds on the ride home will be WNW about 15 mph or so.

Cross posted from Lost and Found: If anybody lost a U lock on the MVT this morning near the north end of the general aviation terminal. One of the daily trash walkers picked it up and put in a tree.

As further evidence the universe hates cyclists, tomorrow promises to be one of those rare days where commuters from the North/Northwest will face strong headwinds IN BOTH DIRECTIONS.

As a commuter coming from south of the District, it was downhill both ways!

This morning I trailed a rider and watched in stunned silence as the lion's jaws of the Eisenhower connector nearly claimed him.
The rider, who was about 30 yards ahead of me merged right into the off-ramp of 495 without looking back to clear in an attempt to make a right turn onto Eisenhower. He missed being nailed from behind by a Subaru by what seemed like a few inches. The kicker: the rider had no idea how close he'd come to getting clobbered and pedaled along as he swung a wide right turn onto Eisenhower.
In the miles that followed I contemplated the age-old division between bravery and ignorant recklessness.
