I was on the Washington Blvd path near the Pentagon this morning, and was nearly knocked off my bike by the rotor wash of three helicopters that passed directly overhead and then landed. Pretty cool!

Thoughts on the way to work:

So, where is everyone? Most days there are people passing me, sometimes calling it, on their road bikes and e-assist or electric bikes all thinking they are bad-asses for passing the flat-bar-hybrid-with-full-panniers who is a little slow on the uphills (and often pissed off on the downhills when you aren't fast enough and I catch-up). Temperature is same as yesterday. Oh, I see it is the rain. Really. Rain is keeping you off the trails. What, do you melt in the rain? They make some rain gear that still makes you look cool. Oh, but you would still get wet. Really. You are not bad-asses. You are poseurs. Wannabees. FAKE. We know who the real bad-asses are. Look, even the geese are walking away from me today. Afraid of a little rain. SAD. Yes, my shoes are full of water, there is crud on my face and back from my tires, but I am still biking. I am a bad-ass.

Rule #9. Still, I can't say I minded getting in before the real rain started. The only thing I need to dry out is my shorts.

I took the bus and I feel pretty good about that decision.

I biked in and it was raining so hard I'm pretty sure my face is bruised. But my new rain jacket worked REALLY well. It kept me dry and the jacket itself was dry by the time I was done showering and changing. 7Mesh was started by some ex-Arcteryx guys and this jacket completely out-performed any of my Gore jackets. No comparison really.

I only wish my new velocity backpack arrived in time (my canvas Camelbak bag is hanging up, drip drying...).

I took the metro - but stopped by Java Shack and saw Wheels N Wings, Fast Friendly Guy and Steve O - and I'm pretty happy with that decision. I'll bike in the rain another day.

Kudos to all the bad asses out there

I had a nice quiet trail this morning. Wonder where all the cyclists went?

BAFS may need to be extended year-round to keep some of us, ahem, off the metro

I only saw one other person out: a cyclist...changing his tire on the side of the trail. I stopped to commiserate for a minute, but he clearly didn't need any help from me.

The Metro is doing a pretty good job of keeping me off the Metro.
