Default Cyclist Collision on 8th St NE close to Irving, (Brookland, DC), 1/30/23

Came up the ambulance activity of a cyclist-involved collision this morning around 8:15 a.m. Saw an injured cyclist and a bicycle with a bent front tire. There were 2 ambulances and I'm not sure who all was involved.

Obviously, 8th St NE is a dangerous combination of a heavily used bicycle route that was routed onto the road, several school zones, some very aggressive drivers, and a heavy equipment rental facility.

    Hope the cyclist is ok.

And this stretch is extra chaotic because you have, in addition to the school at Hamlin near this morning's crash, a total of 4 schools around the curve where Edgewood becomes 8th just south of Franklin. Plus the mess that is Sunbelt. That chaos and the need for a safer route to school is one of the main reasons why DDOT proposed a one-way configuration in the first place, irrespective of the long overdue cycletrack.
