Default Team 13 - Blazing Saddles

Just a name for starting purposes. We can work on that.

I have followed or requested a follow of our team members. You can join the club that is on my page (I'm only in two, so that is easy).

This is the link to the club:

    https://www.strava.com/clubs/1104675

It is currently open to the public so I don't have to worry about approving anything. I also enjoy booting stray people from the club.

    Our team is as follows:

    Theresa Rowell
    Pedja Gudac
    Marcy Kelley
    Margaret McBride
    Joan Bickelhaupt
    Andrew Churella
    Ken Gordon
    Michael Avilez
    Kris Stein
    And yours truly

I find it to be more fun if we all follow each other on Strava. For cheering each other on and emotional support! I'm always up for mindless banter.

Bear with me. I'm working on getting an email out. I'm currently on the road right now. I'm in TX where it was 80 today (hence the Blazing Saddles).

More to follow when I have more time. This is hard work!

    Hi Team,

This is G-Daddy, a.k.a. Ken. Glad to be aboard! I'm back on the bike after recovering from a 4 day hospital stay in the aftermath of getting crashed out in a bike race last summer. (I'll confess, that is indeed me shouting "OH F***!" in the video.) I've been riding more each week, and hope to contribute more to the team as time passes.

This thing is a lot more fun when we're a team and not just a bunch of names on a scoreboard. Glad to see our leader Alan is ahead of the game with his post above and getting us started on Strava—thank you! So where should we hang out to chat gang? (Here, Strava, email, group text, WhatsApp, Facebook group, ???) I'm game wherever, just hoping we pick something and use it. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

So far, we have nine of our ten on the team. We're only missing Theresa. No email or Strava response so far. I'll give her a few more days before I follow up (I'm also not a pushy person).

Well done team! That's nice to see that you at least care a bit about this silly game.

Based on what I've seen and heard so far, we should have a fun and interesting team. Whether we win or not is up to us. I'm not really that worried about it. Let's just have some fun (and ride a bit, too).

Yay! We finally have a full team. I made the club private, so I don't have to worry about other people joining. I'm surprised we didn't get any random members. I didn't even get to use my power to boot someone. Oh well.

Keep up the good work. Go, team, go. Rah, Rah, Rah!

Dearest Blazing Saddles Team (aka team 13)

This is Rumi crashing your team thread to announce this year’s "team fundraising challenge" to reward any teams where all 10 members chip in *any amount* to the Feeding Saddles campaign, our annual charity partnership with the Capital Area Food Bank!

To help your team win a cool little prize:

    1. Donate Any Amount (every dollar provides two meals!): https://give.capitalareafoodbank.org...r-2023/c457737 (if you already have donated, skip to step #2, and yes, you can donate anonymously if you prefer)

    2. Hashtag: To count your donation towards your team challenge goal, just edit the title of your latest ride on strava (any ride since Jan 1 really) to include this hashtag:

    #FeedingSaddlesTeam13

    3. Check out https://freezingsaddles.org/pointles...gSaddlesTeam13 to see your team's progress!

    4. When all 10 on your team have chipped in any amount, you WIN! (and so do people who need food!)

I finally got around to looking at the top teams and stats. Well done, team! We are currently #4. I don't really look at the stats very often, so I was happy to see that we aren't bottom-dwellers.

I was also happy to see that I am killing the competition for reverse freeze points! I am in dead last by a large margin. I hope to keep it up! lol, there is a reason I came up with our team name.

    Dear Team,

I know not many people look at the forum posts, but here goes.

Most Captains would wait until the final day of competition to make their speech. I'm not like most people.

Considering no one had any idea what would happen this year, we had a pretty decent year. The good news is that we win just as much money as everyone else. Yay, us!!

As of a few minutes ago, here are out highliights of the year:

A respectable team #4. That's pretty decent for 18 teams. I don't see any change in that for the final day. Yay, us!!
Team #2 for miles. Yay, us!!
Team #1 for total elevation and elevation per mile. Yay, us!!

Also, a special shout out to Marcy & Theresa for riding every day of the year. Unless they die in their sleep tonight, I can't imagine they won't do something tomorrow. Oh, and speaking of dying in their sleep, unless that happens to me, this will be my first year (and most likely, last) year of riding every day. Yay, us & me!!

To everone else, thanks! It was an entertaining year. Oh, and Spring is coming. Yay!!

Thank you, Alan & Team for inspiring me to ride more than I might have these past 78 days!

Congrats to Alan, Marcy & Theresa for Daily Riding! to us for 4th place & to Alan for being #5 of 180 with almost 3300 miles!

Maybe I'll see/meet some of you April 11th at the wrap party in DC.

    Happy Spring (5:24 pm)!

    Marg
