    Default Alexandria's green buildings ride -- Sunday, April 3 at 9:30 a.m.

Celebrate Earth Day by riding to green-certified buildings in Alexandria

Which Old Town building, first constructed as a warehouse in 1910, later became Virginia's first LEED-Gold certified condominium? Which Alexandria school is one of the most-energy efficient schools in the country? Which $1 billion office complex in Alexandria is one of the federal government's largest projects to attain LEED-Gold certification? Come find out on this free bicycle ride organized by the Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (and yours truly!).

When: Sunday, April 3 at 9:30 a.m. Register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/alexand...n-294955177877.

Where: We'll meet outside Alex Renew, at 1800 Limerick Street. The route is about 15 miles, with a mix of streets, bike lanes, and trails, including some hills: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/38742187. If you'd like to join for just part of the ride, that's fine too.

Who: Riders of all ages and abilities are welcome, and we'll wait to regroup if we get separated. We'll be riding on some busier streets with traffic, so everyone will need to be able to control their bike.

For everyone's health and safety, we'll be taking the following precautions:
    • asking everyone to self-screen and not ride if they've experienced symptoms of covid or been exposed to a known covid case within the last 14 days
    • asking people who are not fully vaccinated to give others at least 10 feet of space
    • breaking into small groups based on expected pace
    • keeping an eye on local covid conditions, and cancelling the ride if needed

This ride is part of a series of events being organized in Alexandria to celebrate Earth Day and champion sustainability. For more information on other Earth Day events, go to https://www.alexandriava.gov/EarthDay. For more information on general sustainability, see Eco-City Alexandria and https://www.alexandriava.gov/Eco-City.

I'm still looking for a few volunteers to serve as ride leaders and sweeps. If you're willing to help, please let me know. Thanks.
