Team 4 Meetup Here!
Hi, sorry for the delay Team 4 members -- there was a communication mixup between me and the faceless cabal.
I will send a team email in a minute.
Here's the Strava club to join: https://www.strava.com/clubs/1017141
More info to follow on this thread. -Jeff
PS. Dog pictures are sort of a tradition.

Excellent, thanks Team -- we're on the leaderboard! Last place, but that will change...

For those of you using the forum regularly, feel free to post intros and ride ideas here as well as on the Strava club.
As for me, I'm Jeff. I ride mostly out of Greenbelt and College Park MD. I do a couple regularly scheduled rides (weather permitting) with Proteus Velo Club. On Sunday mornings at 930, I usually do a mountain bike ride (about 8 miles, one hour-ish) at Fairland, like this: https://www.strava.com/activities/6430083286 If it looks like the snow is going to hold off until afternoon, I'll probably go ahead with this ride tomorrow. Let me know if you want more info if you'd like to join.
On Monday, we usually do lunch laps in Greenbelt Park, like this: https://www.strava.com/activities/6407685422
However, this Monday MLK day instead of laps, I'm planning to do a 11am bike trail recon/trail clearing ride from Proteus down the trolley trail toward Bladensburg and back along the Anacostia River Trail System. Probably about 20 miles RT, but the going could be slow if we stop along the way and shovel out some of the trouble spots that always get gnarly after a snowfall. Expecting to be out in the cold maybe 2 hours-ish. Hoping the bike shop will open the coffee bar at 11 for us for pre-ride caffeinated beverages. More info here: http://bikearlingtonforum.com/showth...de-on-the-ARTS Let me know if you're coming!
That's all I've got coming up, I'll post other ride ideas as we get going, here and on the Strava club. All of my rides are open to all BAFS teams -- more fun for all!
PS. Oh cool, another tippy picture!

Kitties are acceptable on this thread. Although if they wake up the hound puppy, they will be in for a merry chase.

Thanks for captaining and setting up our Strava club, Jeff!
It was great to meet some of our team virtually at the happy hour, and I hope to meet the rest of you soon. I live in Alexandria and have been doing Freezing Saddles since 2015. I went car-free in 2020, so I rely on my bike to get around. The fact that I'm still working from home and not bike commuting will mean fewer miles for me than previous years, but I'll do my best to get in ten miles each day. I usually try to make it to the Arlington or Alexandria coffee clubs each weekday morning, so drop by if you want to meet up. Also, if you need Freezing Saddles swag, let me know and I can hook you up.
Here's a photo of my cat:
She figured out pretty quickly that whenever I put my bike helmet on, I'm heading out the door -- so now she'll run to the door, lie down in front of it, and block me from leaving. In order to get out, I have to leave a treat for her on the other side of the living room and then sneak out the door while she's busy digesting her treat. Yes, she has me well trained.

Our club 930am mountain bike ride at Fairland is ON for this morning. Bring warm toes. Meet at PRoteus to drive over at 9am or at Fairland behind the Gardens Ice House at 930am for ride start. 1 hour max, intermediate terrain (non-tech), medium pace. Jeff

Hello Team 4!
Many thanks to Jeff for being our fearless leader. I think this is my fifth year doing FS and have loved every year, I'm sure this year is no exception. I live in DC and work from home almost 2 years now, and like Komorebi, that keeps my miles down, but I love going out and playing games so there's hope. I just discovered a coffee club in DC on Fridays and plan to attend this week. And Jeff I plan to do a Proteus ride too. Question Jeff about the mountain bike ride -- is a gravel suitable for the ride?? Hope to meet everyone soon!!

Fairland is doable on a gravel bike with sufficient youth and skill these days. They’ve done some trail work and it’s smoother in many areas though still some rooty sections that would be tougher on rigid bike. I rode there for years on single speed rigid mtb bike without too many problems. Those skills are fading though https://strava.app.link/rIH65PETRmb
