Little Free Library Pointless Prize
We saw so many of these last year when we weren't looking. So we decided to host a prize for those who ARE looking and who follow.the.rules.
So here are the rules:
Little Free Library (LFL) Prize
- One per day. You can stop and start your strava all you want, but you will still get credit for only one LFL per day.
- One photo in your post. Multiple photos will result in zero points for that day, no matter how engaging or clever or beautiful the LFL is.
- Some part of your bike must be visible in photo
- Cannot repeat a location - so if you see more than one while you’re out riding, you might want to come back to it the next day with an item to add to the library to get the extra point!
- Extra point for
- Exact coordinates of location (+1) (Address or GPS)
- Depositing a library item OR
- Noting what genre of book the rider thinks the LFL needs restocked (+1 for b or c)
- Prize will be for rider with most points.
- In case of tie winner will be determined by lowest mileage total
- For particularly ornate or interestingly constructed LFL’s, the faceless cabal will consider extra points.
- EXTRA EXTRA POINTS - If you comment in this forum on someone else’s find in a way that is encouraging and positive (and unique or interesting), the faceless cabal will consider adding +5 points. To ensure this gets counted, use the Reply With Quote function.
- Prize will be a significant gift card to local (not chain) bookstore. Winner may select bookstore (new or used) convenient to winner’s location, but it cannot be a chain.
- Use this hashtag but don’t count on it being the definitive “who wins” counter: #FSBOOKS
Example of perfect entry (add photo):

Coordinates:
I left this book at the library: To Kill a Mockingbird
OR
This library needs more: picture books
To help you get started, here is a link to a map with the registered little free libraries. NOTE: There are many LFL’s in our area that are not on this map. You will see them if you ride slowly and keep your eyes open. They occur in the most unexpected places, so have fun with this!

Wonderful idea! For any Maryland folks, there is one in front of my home: 7505 Oldchester Road Bethesda. Bring a book, take a book!

Ready, set, RIDE & READ
Looking forward to your posts about LFL's you encounter. I'm still out of town so I'll be doing a round up of submissions on each Sunday. So if you don't see any response right away, don't think I'm ignoring you!
I heard a podcast the other day in which one of the listener mails discussed a tradition I wish I had done with my kids -- but I'm going to do it with grandkids when that comes along. On Dec 1 the parents presented the kids with 25 wrapped books. They alternated who got to open one each day. In the evening, they read the book as a family. It served as an advent calendar for them. I love this!
It also occurs to me that it would be fun to do this as a "gift" to a local library -- present them with 25 books from their wish list, wrapped, and let the librarians have the fun of the daily unwrapping! I don't have to wait for grandkids, right?

Little Free Library Pointless Prize
[
1045 Quaker Lane
Alexandria, VA
The library was jammed with books, but it was raining, so I didn’t open the door to browse. Several books on traveling to Ireland and the book “Chicken Soup for the Soul” was visible. I would have settled for a cup of hot soup.

Giving up a Wodehouse? My husband would faint ... lol
Nicely staged photo, Serdar!

Address: On the path leading to Ayrlawn Park, 5562 Oakmont Avenue, Bethesda
This library needs more children's books. It's right by a school bus stop, plus Ayrlawn has a daycare center, but it's full of adult books.
