Mexican culture celebrates bright colors, so there was no shortage of subjects from which to choose today. The terra cotta of the buildings, the bright orange paint on trucks, stores, and murals, and the fact that UTEP's colors are orange and white made it a challenge to narrow it down. Ultimately, I chose the piece that celebrates the unity and joy of relationship between UTEP and Mexico.

Acclaimed Mexican Sculptor Sebastian created this piece to celebrate the centennial of UTEP in 2014. It's painted steel, and is called Esfera Cuántica Tlahtolli. Tlahtolli is a Nahautl word that means "Language, Communication". The piece was a gift from the People of Mexico to UTEP on the anniversary of its centennial.
