3/12/22 Georgian Architecture

Marist Hall at Catholic University, dedicated in 1900. Damaged in the 2011 Virginia earthquake. Pretty in the snow.

3/12/22 - Georgian Architecture
I found a lot. I think Rumi & Millie started us out with the style most commonly found here so we'd think this week would be easy.... This one was on Lorcum lane in Arlington

Identifiable features of Georgian architecture are symmetrical forms and stone or brick walls.

3-12 Georgian Architecture
This is not common in Colorado, so it added some Mike's to my Saturday ride to get to an area where (thankfully) I found some two story, brick homes with symmetry (note the 2 chimneys even).
Unfortunately, brutalist will be another "fun" one around here

3/12/2022 Georgian Architecture
This is a non-starter in El Paso Texas but we have some really bad-ass murals and an amazing Indigenous/Mexican-American art community. (Note: I did NOT bike to this location but I figure if I'm posting something that doesn't qualify as Georgian architecture, I might as well fail on all levels and share some of the culture at the same time!)

3/13/2022 Brutalist
Given that every one of DC's Metro stations is an example of Brutalist architecture, this one could have been easy. So I decided to up the challenge by going to Georgetown University's Joseph Mark Lauinger Library, 3700 O St NW, Washington, D.C. 20057-1174.

3/13/2022 brutalist

St. Luke Catholic Church (McLean, VA) has been described as "white brick, softly brutalist style". The stained glass is not leaded, but cast in concrete.

3/13/2022 - Brutalist

Brutalism was generally characterized by its rough, unfinished surfaces, unusual shapes, heavy-looking materials, straight lines, and small windows.
