Default Presidential history ride in Alexandria -- Saturday, July 10 at 9:30 a.m.

Which pizzeria in Alexandria offers a Barack My World pizza, named after the pizza that President Obama ordered during a visit? Which school was the site of a campaign rally for future president John F. Kennedy? When Gerald Ford learned that Nixon was resigning and that he was about to be sworn in as president, which dry cleaner in Alexandria did he ask to clean his suit? Come find out on a free community ride organized by the Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (and yours truly!).

When: Saturday, July 10. The ride starts at 9:30 a.m., and registration is at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/alexand...n-161285512309.

Where: The starting point for the ride is in Del Ray, at the mural outside of The Dog Store (2301 Mount Vernon Avenue). The route is about 14 miles, with a mix of neighborhood streets, bike lanes, and trails, including some hills: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/36412299. If you participated in BPAC's 2019 presidential history ride, most of the stops on this ride are new.

Who: Riders of all ages and abilities are welcome, and we'll wait to regroup if we get separated. If you'd like to join for just part of the ride, that's fine too.

Bring a functioning bike, a helmet, and water. If you're not fully vaccinated, please bring a face covering as well. For everyone's health and safety, we'll be taking the following precautions:

    • asking everyone to self-screen and not ride if they've experienced symptoms of covid or been exposed to a known covid case within the last 14 days
    • asking people who are not fully vaccinated to give others at least 10 feet of space while riding and to wear masks during the stops (and also while riding if they can breathe comfortably while doing so)
    • breaking into small groups based on expected pace
    • keeping an eye on local covid conditions, and cancelling the ride if needed

ETA: I'm looking for a few volunteers to serve as ride leaders or sweeps. If you're interested, PM me. Thanks!
