Come find out about some of Alexandria's community gardens, learning gardens, and other types of gardens at two free events organized by the Alexandria Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee (and yours truly!).

When: Sunday, May 16. The ride starts at 9:30 a.m., and registration is at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/alexand...n-153249004899. The walk starts at 2:00 p.m., and registration is at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/alexand...n-153250106193.

Where: The starting point for the ride is Ben Brenman Park, 4800 Ben Brenman Park Drive. The bike route is about 15 miles, with a mix of neighborhood streets, bike lanes, and trails, including some hills: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35666460.

The starting point for the walk is Eugene Simpson Stadium Park, 426 E. Monroe Avenue. The walk route is about 3 miles, and will cover parts of Del Ray: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/35666422.

Who: People of all ages and abilities are welcome. For everyone's health and safety, we'll be taking the following precautions:
  • breaking into small groups of no more than 15 people
  • asking everyone to self-screen and not ride if they've experienced symptoms of covid or been exposed to a known covid case within the last 14 days
  • asking people to wear masks during the stops, and also while riding or walking if they can breathe comfortably while doing so
  • asking people to give each other space while riding or walking
  • keeping an eye on local covid conditions, and cancelling the event if needed

All participants should bring a water, a face covering, and hand sanitizer. Ride participants should also bring a functioning bike and a helmet.
